Warriors Offense Explodes for 61 in Big Win

WARREN COUNTY, VA - Friday's game between the Sherando Warriors (4-0 \ 1-0) and the Warren County Wildcats (1-3 \ 0-1) saw the Warriors walk away with a 61-0 victory in the opening game for each in the 2007 Northwestern District schedule. The Warriors took control of the game early in the 1st quarter on a pair of Markeith Briscoe touchdown runs from 6 and 4 yards out respectively. Senior David Hoopengarner took over for Briscoe in the 2nd quarter and was able to score three times for the Warriors. Hoopengarner scored on runs of 26, 1, and 1 yard to complete the first half where the score stood at 35-0 in favor of the visiting Warriors. Sherando's offense had one final chance to score again just before the end of the half but Jr. QB Ross Metheny was unable to hook-up with his receiver as time expired. Sherando scored 5 touchdowns on 6 possessions in the first half of the game.

In the second half the Warriors' defense stayed strong and kept the Wildcat offense from getting on track. It was the second team for the Warriors that had to complete the shutout for most of the second half. Metheny connected with Derek Crosen from 15 yards out on the first drive of the second half...the final drive for the Warriors' starters on the evening. Roger Smith, Jr. was impressive for the second week in a row tallying 2 more scores for the offense in the 3rd and 4th quarters from 12 and 3 yards out respectively.

The game ended in a frenzy as the Wildcats called a timeout with only 2 seconds left on the game clock only to have Sherando force a turnover and see Lukas Stump recover the fumble and return it 12 yards for a score that made the game's final 61-0 in favor of the Warriors.

Warren County will travel to Brentsville next Friday in an attempt to get their first district win of the 2007 season. The Sherando Warriors will host cross-town rival Handley next Friday night in a game that can be heard worldwide online at www.GamedayMagazine.com on the Gameday Radio Network. Broadcast begins at 6:45 pm.
