Dinwiddie Advances to AAA Div 5 Final, 42-21

DINWIDDIE, VA - With a trip to Blacksburg on the line the Dinwiddie Generals rose to the occasion and knocked off the Liberty Eagles Saturday afternoon with a 42-21 victory. Senior QB Adam Morgan continued his record breaking season by throwing for 229 yards breaking the VHSL record for total yardage in a career and now stands at 8,895. Morgan already holds the records for completions (640) and touchdowns (111) in a career. The talented senior threw four touchdowns on the afternoon to four different players tying the record for touchdown passes in a season at 46.

Morgan's first two touchdowns came with in the first 2:11 seconds of the first quarter as Dinwiddie intercepted Liberty's Nick Potts on back to back possessions. General safety Brandon Parson came down with the first interception after a pass intended for Kenny Tapscott sailed high and was tipped in the air. Morgan's first touchdown was hauled in by 2007 All-State WR Jerrell White from 7 yards out.

Sophomore DT Corey Marshall came up with the second interception inside the 10-yard line that set up a Terron Adams 5-yard touchdown reception. Adams finished the game with 2 catches for 49 yards.

Liberty then scored two quick touchdowns at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second as Corey Lillard got the Eagles on the board first with a 15-yard touchdown run. Liberty then held Dinwiddie to a three and out which set up the biggest play of the day yardage wise when Nick Potts connected with Derrick Lee on a 75-yard touchdown strike to pull the Eagles back even at 14 all. Potts and Lee would connect again on a 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to pull the Eagles within two scores.

The game changing play of the afternoon came on a 28-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Marshall. The sophomore standout stripped the ball away from senior Shaheem Jones and rumbled all the way into the end zone to put momentum back on the General sideline. Liberty fumbled twice and had three passes intercepted in the game and was ultimately unable to overcome the numerous setbacks as hard as they tried.

Just three minutes of game clock later Morgan threw his third touchdown pass to his third different receiver as he found a wide open Quintaze Jackson streaking down the middle of the field for a 56-yard score. Dinwiddie would go into the half with a 14 point advantage.

Morgan's final touchdown pass of the game went to running back Mark Beville from 5 yards out at the 2:40 mark in the third quarter. Morgan then did a good job of running the ball and ate up chunks of the clock en route to the biggest victory for Coach Billy Mills in his 4-year career at Dinwiddie. Mills and the Generals have now rattled off 12 straight victories after losing the first game of the year to Clover Hill 14-10. In that 12 game span the have scored over 40 points in 9 contests.

Dinwiddie (12-1) moves on to face off with Phoebus in the AAA Division 5 final at noon on Saturday at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
