QO's Twine Chooses Maryland

By Jeremy Moreland:
GAITHERSBURG, MD - Quince Orchard's Alex Twine won't have to travel far to play football at the next level. The All-Gameday linebacker committed to play at the University of Maryland next season. Twine was the defensive star for a Cougars team that went 9-3 in 2010 and made it to the regional finals before falling to Damascus. Twine posted 52 tackles, forced 4 fumbles and had 3 interceptions over the course of the season.

At 6-feet tall and 210 lbs, Twine isn't the largest linebacker and may be asked to play as a defensive back. But Maryland has had smaller linebackers in the past, including guys like Erin Henderson, Adrien Moten, and Moises Fokou; so it's very possible Twine remains at the linebacker position.

Twine is a late pickup for the Terps who already have 20 commitments for the class of 2011 according to ESPN. At the time of his signing, Twine only had Maryland and some Division 1-AA schools on his list.

Maryland is still looking at landing a few other big names in the area, including Gilman quarterback Darius Jennings, Good Counsel defensive back/wide receiver Blake Countess, and St. John's defensive tackle Kevin McReynolds.
