Training Camp Tour: Westfield Bulldogs
CHANTILLY, VA - Last October, Tom Verbanic may have been the most perplexed coach in America. The legendary Westfield coach had won two state championships and had rarely experienced defeat more than once or twice in a season since the school opened in 2000.
But there was Westfield, sitting (1-4), and facing playoff extinction for the first time in 8 seasons. After a 9-3 finish in 2008, the Bulldogs were expecting to contend for a Northern Region championship. But making the post-season looked highly unlikely.
