Bethesda, MD - The IAC conference has been full of coaching changes heading into 2010 and new Landon Bears Head Football Coach Paul Padalino is as enthusiastic and undaunted as they come. With a schedule including tough out of conference opponents such as: Bishop McNamara, Woodberry Forest, McDonogh, and of course "The Rivalry" against Georgetown Prep, not to mention an ever improving IAC league that saw St. Albans lead the way in 2009, Coach Padalino's squad should still have a great chance for a big time campaign.

Coach Padalino takes over for legendary coach, Rob Bordley, coming over from St. Christopher's in Richmond, Virginia where he was football coach for nine seasons and Athletic Director for his final year at the school. Under Coach Bordley, the Bears ran a powerful run heavy Wing-T attack that will remain as a focal point, but Padalino also expects to throw the football more often than in the past. The offense will keep many of the staple Wing-T principles, but will utilize more spread formations and a more wide open passing attack.

To lead the Bears offense it appears that both Paul Adkins and John Lynn will both see plenty of time at the quarterback position. A bevy of fullbacks, wingbacks, and receivers all look to spread around plenty of playmaking opportunities and the spread formation should allow a balanced attack.

Where Landon really is strongest might be at the most important position of all, the line, both offensive and defensive. Size, depth, and experience on both sides of the ball are ample. Big strong players such as Max Lehrman may only be needed to play one-way football at times with the abundance of line talent. Key contributor tight end/defensive end Luke Howard, will also be a key cog for the bears along their solid front as a blocker, receiver, and defensive stalwart. A hard hitting group of defensive backs will likely play some quarter coverages, mixed with some other base zone looks.

Camp Observations:

Defensive Pressure: Likely utilizing a 5-2 base defense, Landon will concentrate on stuffing the run, but do not be surprised to see this group blitz quite a bit from the linebacker position. This strategy will both put pressure on offenses attempting to pass and maybe even more so make life miserable for opposing running backs.

Padalino Commands Respect: Whether it is his intimidating size or his slightly fading New York accent, Coach Padalino holds the attention of all in his presence. Landon will miss the tutelage of Coach Bordley on the gridiron in many ways, but Padalino will without a doubt become a key asset for Landon football immediately.

Familiarity: Coaching outside the region the past ten years, Padalino and his staff could have been in a situation to play catch-up when it comes to scouting and familiarizing themselves with some of the team's opponents. This is not likely as Padalino himself has close relationships that go way back with several IAC coaches. In addition a veteran group of players with a ton of experience return to ease the transition.

Coach Padalino recently spoke with Gameday about the upcoming season and here is what he had to say:
