Falcon Football Tuning Up for the Big Time

OLNEY, MD - On Tuesday August 17th the Good Counsel Falcons scrimmaged against Loyola Blakefield as part of their preseason preparation. Not surprisingly, stars such as junior running back Wes Brown, senior quarterback Zach Dancel, senior tight end Vince Groce, senior receiver Blake Countess, and junior receiver Stephon Diggs seemed in top form, ripping big plays and dictating the smash-mouth style that Good Counsel, the returning WCAC champions, have become known for.
The 2010 season does have a bit of a different feel then in recent years past for the Falcons. They finally defeated rival Dematha to win the coveted WCAC title, and due to the lofty national rankings the team will enter the season with, there is clearly a target on the teams back. Good Counsel will enter the year a consensus top 25 team in the nation and will have to earn that honor right out of the gates, opening the season on national television. The Falcons will play powerhouse St. Xavier (Ohio) on Sunday August 29th at 3PM on ESPN to open the high school season nationally on the road. The much anticipated game will be quite the litmus test for Washington D.C. and Maryland area football as well as the Falcons. This same St. Xavier program had beaten Dematha just three years ago by a significant margin and for the WCAC conference to earn the right to be called the nation's best football conference, a win from Good Counsel will have to be a start.
Head Coach Bob Milloy has all five starting offensive lineman returning to anchor his potent attack and will rely on that group to not only protect the left-handed Dancel, but also drive block into the second level of defenses, so that the skill position players can do their magic. Gameday's own, Jeremy Moreland, had a chance to catch up with bookend junior offensive tackles Michael Madaras and Ryan Watson following the Loyola Blakefield scrimmage and here is what the two star linemen had to say:
