HAMPTON, VA - (July 21, 2010) Anna Blessing of Broad Run High School has been named the 2010 Virginia AA State Softball Player of the Year by the Virginia High School Coaches Association. The Binghamton University recruit was previously named the 2010 Dulles District Player of the Year as well as the 2010 Virginia High School League Region II Player of the Year. Additionally, Blessing received recognition by the Washington Post, garnering a 1st Team All Met selection this past spring.

A centerfielder, Blessing lead the Spartans with a .509 batting average slugging two homeruns, 20 RBI and seven triples, a school record. Blessing also set a school single season record in slugging percentage (.947), and tied the career record for hit-by-pitch with 9. Besides roaming centerfield while recording no errors, she spent time in the pitcher's circle compiling a 12-3 record with two saves while striking out 87 batters in 92 innings pitched.

Blessing's selection keeps alive a Broad Run string of Player and Pitcher of the Year Awards for Broad Run. Caitlyn Delahaba (Villanova) was recognized as the Virginia State AA Pitcher of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Catcher Haley Johnson (James Madison) won the Player of the Year award in 2009. Broad Run's Maggie Betz, 3B, garnered 2010 Honorable Mention recognition.

Blessing plays summer ball for the Virginia Shamrocks and will begin her college career this fall at Division I Binghamton University in New York State. The Bearcats, lead by Maryland graduate Coach Michelle Burrell, compete in the America East Conference.
