Before Taking A Snap, Burns Nets ACC Offer

Rarely does an ACC Football program offer a rising sophomore quarterback before he's ever taken a Varsity snap, but that's what Boston College did after Stone Bridge's Ryan Burns attended their camp a few weeks ago. At 6'5 207lbs, Burns may become one of the top prospects of the 2013 recruiting class.

"The Boston College camp is the only college one he's been to, so that is pretty exciting," said Thompson. "He has all of the skills and intangibles college coaches are looking for."

ASHBURN, VA - If there has been one program locally in the past few years that is churning out major college football prospects, it's Mickey Thompson's Stone Bridge Bulldogs. After sending 12 players to college football in 2008, the Bulldogs had a light year of signings this past spring, but all of that is about to change.

Just recently, Stone Bridge rising senior Rob Burns committed to UVA, and fellow 2011 prospects Marcus Harris, Spenser Rositano, and Brian Rody are close to accepting scholarship offers as well.

With the heat of the August sun around the corner, the recruiting news coming out of Ashburn is also heating up.

Stone Bridge has sent more football players to college football in the past 10 years in Loudoun County than any other program, but it would be safe to say, what happened a few weeks ago has never happened.

Rising sophomore Ryan Burns, who stands 6'5 207lbs already, ventured up to Chestnut Hill to showcase his skills to Boston College in a recent camp. He walked home with a verbal scholarship offer.

What's ironic is, Burns has never played a down of Varsity football for Stone Bridge. According to Thompson, Boston College told his future star behind center that they wanted him to be an Eagle, and wanted to be the first to offer Burns.

"The Boston College camp is the only college one he's been to, so that is pretty exciting," said Thompson. "He has all of the skills and intangibles college coaches are looking for, but that's a first for me as a coach to have an offer in hand for one of my players before he ever steps on the field as a varsity starter."

Ryan Burns is not related to senior Rob Burns (UVA), but the attention he will garner from college football is about the same. Thompson believes the Boston College offer is just the first of many more that will be rolling in for his talented sophomore, despite the fact that he may not be the starter for the Bulldogs until his junior season.

"Brian Rody is going to be our starter this year, but we expect Ryan to come along and see time as well," said Thompson. "If Ryan keeps working on understanding the offense, and learning the stuff we expect out of our quarterbacks, he could be one of the most special quarterbacks to ever play in this area."

Burns and the rest of the 2010 Stone Bridge Bulldogs will begin training camp on August 9th in Ashburn.
