Northern Region 'Patriotic' Day To Remember

On Memorial Day, the Woodson Cavaliers endured a 9-inning battle with McLean, upending the Highlanders 13-11 on Connor Reilly's 3-run home run in the 9th. The Lake Braddock Bruins had a much easier road, pouncing on Washington-Lee 11-0...

OAKTON, VA - On the day where all Americans turn their thoughts and prayers to the patriotic efforts of those who have served their country, and honor and salute current armed forces members home and abroad, those in attendance at Oakton High School on Memorial Day witnessed a patriotic effort of a different kind, in two separate clashes. In the quarterfinal round of the Northern Region baseball tournament, Patriot District representatives #2 Lake Braddock and #4 Woodson each made the trip to the Vienna school to battle for the right to advance to Wednesday's semifinal round, and both clashes were a contrast in dominance.

In the day's 1st skirmish, the Bruins confronted National District power Washington-Lee - a team that raised eyebrows on the previous Friday by ousting Liberty District power Stone Bridge. But the Generals' hopes of riding that high, and storming through to the next round, were quickly dashed by the supreme firepower of sophomore pitcher Michael Church, and the heavy bombardment of the Lake Braddock offense.
