Herndon Scores Game Winning Goal For Title

STORY BY: SHERRIE COLBY / STONE BRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

BURKE, VA - The Stone Bridge girls soccer team captured the Northern Region Title on Friday night with a 2-1 win over Robinson.

Stone Bridge scored the first goal of the night when Jennifer Skogerboe took a corner kick in the 24th minute of the game. Her kick bounced off Robinson defenders and was deflected out by the Robinson
goalkeeper. However, Skogerboe was there to flow up her own shot and sent a rocket into the back of the net to put the Bulldogs on the board.

Robinson answered with their lone goal of the night coming three minutes before the end of the half.

Starting the second half tied, the Bulldogs got the lead they needed from freshmen forwards Murielle Tiernan and Ashley Herndon. Eight minutes into the half, Tiernan crossed the ball from the right corner and Herndon finished the cross for the game winning goal.

The Bulldogs will host the Northwest Region runner-up, Forest Park, on Tuesday night.
