Sweger Paces Panthers' 10 Run 5th Inning

POTOMAC FALLS, VA - Potomac Falls broke open a close game with a 10 run 5th inning highlighted by Ben Sweger's inside the park homerun to defeat Handley in the Quarterfinals of the Region II playoffs 15-3.

Handley jumped on the Panthers Jackson Rogers for 3 runs in the 1st inning on 4 singles, all to right field.

The Panthers scored 2 in the 2nd on an RBI single by Tyler Caldwell and a sacrifice fly by Sweger.

In the third, Handley had 4 batters come to the plate and all 4 had base hits and yet they failed to score a run. With runners at 1st and 3rd, Rogers picked off Ryan Hayes for the 1st out. He then picked off Will McHugh at 3rd base and after Shawn Kelly hit a single to left, Thomas Rea threw out Aubrey Wilkerson at 3rd to end the inning. Handley would not threaten again.

Potomac Falls took the lead for good in the 3rd by scoring 2 runs on a sacrifice fly by Sam Bass and an RBI single by Jackson Rogers.

Then they broke the game open in the 5th on an RBI single to right by Colin Deely. With men on 1st and 3rd, Sweger hit a ball to the right field corner and raced around the bases to score uncontested as the throw from the outfield was off it's mark. The Panthers then proceeded to tack on 6 more runs on RBI's by Ryan Mahoney, Ryan Miller, Jackson Rogers (2), and Tyler Caldwell (2).

Ryan Mahoney pitched the 6th and Ryan Miller the 7th to end the game.

Potomac Falls (19-3) will play Kettle Run on Wednesday at Panther Park at 7:00PM.
