SOUTH RIDING, VA - The Broad Run Spartans and Loudoun County Raiders met on Thursday night to determine the Dulles District Baseball Championship at Freedom High School. The Spartans defeated the Raiders by a score of 11 to 6. With the win the Spartans improve their record on the season to 18 and 4.

Senior captain Shane Vlasic (UMBC) took the mound for the Spartans with the team's post-season hopes on the line and did not disappoint. In four innings of work, Vlasic struck out 8 hitters, allowed 3 hits, and allowed 3 unearned runs. With the win, he improved his record to 7-1 on the season on the bump.

Offensively, the Spartans offense plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the third, and blew the game open with six in the fourth. Junior Ryan Johnston led the offense with 3 hits on the evening (triple, 2 singles) and 4 RBI. Junior Nick Richardson and Zach Rawson each scored two runs for the Spartans and freshmen AJ Powell and senior Tyler Small each had 2 RBI on the night.

With the win, the Spartans have now won either the Dulles District regular season championship or tournament championship in three of the last four seasons. More importantly, the victory earns the team their fourth consecutive appearance in the Region playoffs.

The Spartans will travel to Sherando High School in a first round Region game on Monday. First pitch is set for 6 pm.
