Clarke Goes The Distance In Region Win

STEPHENS CITY, VA - The Broad Run Spartans traveled to Sherando High School tonight for a first round Region II playoff game. The Spartans defeated the Warriors in an exciting game by a score of 4 to 3 on the evening. With the win, the Spartans improve their record to 19-4 on the season and advance to a second round Region playoff game this coming Wednesday.

Junior Taylor Clarke got the start and went the distance for the Spartans on the mound. Clarke's complete game win improves his record to 9 wins, 1 loss, and 1 save on the year. Clarke struck out 7 batters, allowed 4 hits, and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on the evening.

Offensively, the Spartans scored a pair of runs in the second inning and a second pair of runs in the sixth inning.
In the second inning, senior catcher Johnny Meier knocked in freshman AJ Powell and junior Ryan Johnston with a 2-run double. In the sixth inning, junior Zach Rawson's triple knocked in Nick Richardson, and Powell followed that at-bat with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Rawson from third.

The Spartans will travel to Brentsville this Wednesday for a second round Region II playoff game. First pitch is set for 6 pm.
