Region II-Division 4 Recap by Michael Marzzacco
MONTICELLO, VA - The Potomac Falls boys basketball team has been riding high since Thursday, when they defeated Broad Run to qualify for the state tournament - the 1st such trip in school history. Next up came the important Region II, Division 4 Regional title game at Monticello High School in Charlottesville, against a tough Liberty Eagles team. A win here would be yet another 1st for head Coach Jeff Hawes, and his basketball program.
The Panthers dominated from start to finish. With just 4:50 to go in the half, the Panthers were ahead 39-20. When the Panthers took to their locker room at the half, they enjoyed a 46-28 advantage. In the second half, the Panthers continued their dominance, and won 85-62, and took home the ever elusive Regional title.
Lukas Mihailovich and Brendon Chesson scored a combined 51 points (Mihailovich 26, Chesson 25). Zack Curran added 9, Greg Graves had 8 and Tarrell Owens scored 5.
The Panthers are the first boys basketball team in the Dulles District to win a Regional title. They hope to continue that string of "First" in the state tournament, when they open against Tabb High School, at Robinson Secondary School, in Fairfax, this Friday night, at 7:45pm.
