SOUTH RIDING, VA - Everyone in attendance knew that Round V of Freedom and Loudoun County was going to be intense, because every other meeting was darn near a blood bath. The Raiders and Eagles don't pretend to like each other, and that is what makes it a fun game to watch.
It doesn't take more than a few trips down the court to see bodies flying across the hardwood, and some elbows rattling some teeth. Of course, the elbows are just accidents right? Yeah, ok.
Rivalries prosper when teams with equally talented players, and great coaches, fight for the same prize. They trade punches, they trade wins and losses, and they both leave everything they have on the field of play.
Absolutely nothing was different on Thursday for the fifth meeting between Loudoun County and Freedom. With both teams winning two games a piece entering the regional semifinal, everything was at stake, and they both played like it.
Loudoun County's Kendra Holmes could barely walk before the game, but when the ball went up at half court, she was on the floor. Holmes showed everyone that having heart is what really matters. She probably shouldn't have been playing, but because she toughed it out for her teammates, she surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career. Holmes finished the night with 14 points.
