SOUTH RIDING, VA - After the Panthers beat the Briar Woods Falcons and the Spartans beat the upstart Freedom Eagles, they would take on each other in an epic clash. The teams faced each other twice this year and each won one game on their home court. In this round, they would play in the Dulles District Championship game with regional seedings at stake. The gymnasium was packed at Freedom High school as the Maroon Crew and the Panther Pit, two very loyal fan bases met again. The game may have been in neutral territory, but it certainly felt like a home game for both schools.

Just like the first two contests, this game started out close and after the first quarter the Panthers were winning 16-15. But unlike the first two games it didn't end that way.

In the second quarter the Panthers headed into the locker room with a commanding 34-20 lead.

In the third, the Spartans cut the lead to ten with the Panthers still up 51-41 at the end of the quarter. The Panthers continued to roll and won 69-58!

Coach Hawes was very proud of the way they played the third time and he said, "We played real well defensively and we had a lot of different guys scoring."

Lukas Mihailovich (the MVP of the tournament and the finals) added, "We just came out with a lot more energy. In order to beat a good team you got to prepare well for the best players." In this case the Panthers had to prepare for Kevin McGaughey and Taylor (T-Bone) Johnson.

Alex Kress added, "We thought we had good match-ups and wanted to play good solid man defense but we also went to our triangle and two defense."
