SOUTH RIDING, VA - Loudoun County defeated the Freedom Eagles on their home court to claim the Dulles District Tournament Championship by a score of 69-58!
Alissa Kain's big first half sparked the Raiders as she scored 15 of County's 32 first half points. County led 32-22 at the break as Kain would go on to finish with 21 points in the win.
County then went on to outscore Freedom 23-14 in the third frame to extend its lead to 55-36 after the third quarter. Balanced scoring from five different Lady Raiders was key in the third frame. Brittany Batts led the Raiders in the third quarter with seven of her nine points as she connected on two big three-point baskets.
Kendra Holmes, 17 points and 10 rebounds, scored nine fourth quarter points, all from the free throw line, as County won their second title in three years and third in the last five.
Kain, who tied Freedom's Kelsey Buchanan with game high scoring honors, also finished with 10 rebounds and seven assists.
For the third straight tourament game, sophomore Erica Linnemann finished in double digits with 11 points. Linneman got County going early with five of those points coming in the opening minutes.
Jenna Strange, nine points and seven blocked shots, was also key on both ends of the floor as she continued to provide constant energy throughout the contest.
Casey Cummings provided key minutes of play in the second quarter as well as she would tally three blocked shots during that span.
Jessica Escorza and Deedee Scott finished with double digit scoring for Freedom with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Loudoun County will host the James Wood Colonels, Tuesday at 6:30, in the opening round of Regional play.
