Breaking News: Woodlief Leaves After 4 Years

Under Scott Woodlief, the Panthers made it to the playoffs for the first time in school history in 2008, and played for the regional championship. While Woodlief didn't always fit into the mainstream Loudoun County scene, he was always great to work with here at Gameday, and we wish him the best at Kecoughtan.

It is believed that Potomac Falls defensive coordinator Jerry Gordon will pursue the Panther head coaching job, but there will be several others lining up to interview as well. Potomac Falls has an outstanding athletic program, and the job will be attractive to those familiar with Loudoun County and the Dulles District.

POTOMAC FALLS, VIRGINIA - The Daily Press in Hampton Roads is reporting that Potomac Falls head football coach Scott Woodlief has indeed accepted the same position at Kecoughtan.
Woodlief has been at Potomac Falls for the past 4 seasons where he led Potomac Falls to two playoff seasons, and their best record in school history. Woodlief was 23-19 in his four full seasons at the helm, and will inherit a program in an area where he is very familiar with.
Woodlief is a 1982 graduate of Kecoughtan, and was the head coach at Gloucester High School in 2000 and 2001.
He replaces Glenn Tidwell who was 15-25 in four seasons.
It is not clear as to when Potomac Falls will officially post the job for applicants online, and when the interviewing process would commence. We will keep you posted here at Gameday as we learn more about this developing story at Potomac Falls.
POSSIBLE CANDIDATES AT POTOMAC FALLS:
Here's a few names that could emerge as candidates for the head job at Potomac Falls. Obviously, this is all speculation, but we feel these names would be a good fit for the Potomac Falls program.
Jerry Gordon - Current Def. Coordinator:
The Panthers may not have to look far as current defensive coordinator Jerry Gordon has been on Woodlief's staff for the 4 years he's been there, and has done a good job with the Panther defense. Gordon has been interviewed for other jobs in Loudoun County in the past few years, so it would make sense for him to make a strong push to take over.
Bruce Sheppard - Fmr Valley Coach
Sheppard has definitely expressed an interest in getting back into coaching this spring, having applied for the Woodgrove job. Sheppard's familiarity with the Dulles District would make him an attractive candidate. It will be interesting to see if he pursues the opening at Potomac Falls......
R.J Windows - Chantilly Def. Coordinator
Windows has been mentioned as a candidate at a few openings this spring, and he lives in Loudoun County. He's a sharp guy with experience coaching in the best district in Virginia (Concorde). He also has experience as a head coach having run the Washington & Lee program before joining up with Chantilly.
PROGRAM OUTLOOK:
Certainly with Broad Run and Park View both having a vacancy currently, the Potomac Falls job may not garner as much attention. But it is my opinion that this job could be very good if the right guy is hired. Athletic Director Mike Sipe has a group of high quality coaches in every sport. He has a tremendous basketball coach in Jeff Hawes, and baseball coach in Joe Terango, and every sport at Potomac Falls is competitive in every season.
Sipe is a football guy and a very competitive person, having been a former coach himself. The Panthers have only had three head football coaches in their school's history. Wes Driskill started the program, and Casey Childs took over for him when he left for Heritage. Woodlief replaced Childs a few years later.
The #1 reason Potomac Falls is a job worth pursuing is the community. Here at Gameday, we have seen first hand the amount of interest in Potomac Falls athletics. When we broadcast a game for the Panthers, their fan base is all over it. Their parents and supporters want to win, and they will get behind an enthusiastic coach. If that coach can rally them, there is no question that the Panthers could take a big step on the gridiron in the future.
