Wildcats Claw Past Lady Saxons

CLIFTON, VA - In a battle between the Concorde and Liberty Districts, the Centreville Lady Wildcats defeated the Langley Lady Saxons 65-60 in overtime. The Lady Wildcats were coming off of a district loss to the Oakton Cougars. Both teams came out fast and Langley led by one at the end of the 1st quarter.
The 'Cats dominated the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Saxons by four and taking the lead to 26-23 at half-time. Kristen Kody led Langley with 22 points, while Mary Riley Pembroke followed with 14. Sarah Kleinknecht contributed 8 for Langley and Catherine Plunkett pitched in with 7 of her own.
Junior Erin Meador added 8 rebounds to her career and a game high 31 points for Centreville. She scored 14 of those 31 in the 4th quarter or the extra overtime period, including two free-throws with 3.2 seconds remaining in the 4th to send the game into overtime. She hit 6 shots from inside the arc and 1 shot from 3 point land and converted 14 of her shots from the charity stripe.
Wildcats sophomore post player Chaney Forbush contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds. Junior Taylor O'Hara put in 6 points all from the free-throw line and added a team-high 10 rebounds. Haley Diamond added 2 three-point shots for Centreville. The scoring was finished out by senior Lauren Catalano with 4 and freshman Annie Le who had 2 points.
With the victory, Centreville snapped a 9 game losing streak dating back to Friday, December 18, 2009 while improving to 5-10 on the season and now face the Robinson Rams on the road Friday night. Langley (5-9) will take on the McLean Highlanders on Friday.
