The 2009 All Gameday Team - OFFENSE

LEESBURG, VA - On Saturday January 23, 2010 the Gameday Crew welcomed 50 of the best players in the Northern Region to Bunkers in Leesburg, Virginia for the 8th annual All Gameday Banquet. These players represented the top talent in the 2009 season on the gridiron as selected by Gameday. Players and families enjoyed a wonderful banquet and watched a DVD highlighting all of the winners, as owner Andy Hayes made the trophy presentations...

QUARTERBACK:

Connor Jessop - Broad Run

One of the great stories of the 2009 football season was sophomore Connor Jessop. Without any prior varsity experience, the 6 ft 3 Jessop stepped into the starting lineup in week 3, and never came back out. Jessop led the Spartans to their second straight state championship, and a perfect 14-0 record. He finished 2009 with 1,336 yards passing and 21 touchdowns through the air. He also added 5 scores on the ground...

Michael Nebrich - Lake Braddock
Lake Braddock's junior sensation Michael Nebrich was a no-brainer quarterback selection on the All Gameday Team. Lake Braddock boasted the area's most explosive offense on their way to a Division 6 state championship appearance, and Michael Nebrich was a major reason why. With 3,289 yards via the air, and 1,231 yards on the ground, Nebrich paced the Lake Braddock offense that scored 32 points per game in 2009. Nebrich finished with 46 total touchdowns this past season...

T.J Peeler - Broad Run
Few players had a larger impact on the football field in the entire state than Broad Run's T.J Peeler. The 215lb tailback punished opposing defenses for 2,128 yards rushing, and a staggering 23 touchdowns. Peeler averaged 7.5 yards per carry in 2009, and helped the Spartans win the Group AA Division 4 state championship...Peeler will continue his playing career at the University of Pittsburg next fall...

Brock Lockhart - James Wood
Nicknamed the Diesel for his hard nosed running, Brock Lockhart put together a season to remember for the James Wood Colonels. The physical tailback rushed for 2,016 yards on 297 carries, and scored 20 touchdowns in his senior campaign. Lockhart helped James Wood get back into the playoffs for the 3rd straight year...

Jeremiah Wilson - Handley
Despite battling injuries during his senior season, Handley's Jeremiah Wilson was the most dynamic and dangerous offensive player in the region. His game breaking speed was on display each and every time he touched the football in 2009, and the Judges were tough to beat because of it. Wilson, who is a two time All Gameday selection, finished the season with 959 yards rushing, 13 touchdowns, and averaged 9.2 yards per carry...

Marcus Harris - Stone Bridge
Pick up a Webster's dictionary and look for "workhorse", and you'll find Marcus Harris. The tailback nearly carried Stone Bridge to a comeback victory in the Division 5 state championship game, finishing with a title-game record 47 attempts for 191 yards and a score. While the Bulldogs fell just short, Harris further cemented his place as an All-Gameday running back. In 2009, Harris reached several milestones, notching 394 carries for 2,215 yards and 26 total touchdowns...

Vidal Greene - Osbourn
Vidal Greene added to the tradition of great runners at Osbourn in 2009. His big play ability made the Eagles tough to stop once again offensively, and his leadership was instrumental in helping Osbourn finish 9-4. Greene carried the Eagles to another playoff season and finished with 851 yards and 21 touchdowns...

Idreis Augustus - R.E Lee
Idreis Augustus emerged early in the 2009 football season as a dangerous big play threat, and he never slowed down. Augustus lifted Lee to the regional championship game with a clutch touchdown run late against Hayfield, and he finished his senior season with 1,702 yards and a total of 20 touchdowns. Augustus averaged an astonishing 9.5 yards per carry in 2009.

Adrian Flemming - Broad Run
If you need a big play, you throw the ball to Broad Run's Adrian Flemming. Considered the region's best overall receiver, Flemming was once again tough to stop for opposing defenses in 2009. He finished his senior season with 363 yards receiving on 24 catches, and scored 10 touchdowns. He also averaged 12.6 yards per carry from his receiver position this past season...

David Weaver - Broad Run
A true utility player, Broad Run's David Weaver was instrumental in leading the Spartans to the 2009 state championship. Weaver played nearly every skill position in 2009, and his impact down the stretch run was felt on both sides of the ball. When teams stacked the line of scrimmage to stop T.J Peeler, or double teamed Adrian Flemming, David Weaver was the guy Broad Run gave the ball to, and he delivered every time. Weaver caught 19 passes for 374 yards and 9 touchdowns...

Dalton Boyd - Sherando
Sherando's Dalton Boyd was one of the most respected big play threats in the region in 2009. Opposing coaches had to game plan to stop him, and even then, Boyd still found ways to make plays. Boyd's 94 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against James Wood helped Sherando catapult into the playoffs again in 2009, and he finished his senior season with 29 receptions for 646 yards. He also caught 7 touchdowns, and returned kickoffs for scores as well...

Brandon Johnson - Lake Braddock
No receiver was more important to his team's success than Lake Braddock's Brandon Johnson. Johnson was the go-to guy for Bruin quarterback Michael Nebrich, catching 73 passes for 1,173 yards, and 10 touchdowns. His two clutch touchdown catches against Battlefield helped the Bruins make their first state championship appearance in school history...

Aaron Scoville - Westfield
When Westfield was fighting to rebound from their 1-4 start, they looked to senior Aaron Scoville to do so. Scoville continually made play after play to help Westfield win the Concorde District. He finished his 2009 season with 44 catches for 470 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the game winner against Chantilly...

Blaine Mason - Battlefield
Right from the start of the 2009 football season, Blaine Mason was determined to help Battlefield take the next step as a program. Mason was a key contributor on offense, defense, and special teams, but his clutch catches late in games landed him on the All Gameday Roster as a receiver. Mason's dazzling 71 yard kickoff return against Lake Braddock as time ran out in regulation pushed the game to overtime. He finished his senior season with 560 yards receiving and 6 total touchdowns...

Taylor Evans - Broad Run

When Broad Run's Taylor Evans locked onto a defensive lineman, he was helpless. Evans was the anchor to the Spartan offensive line that helped Broad Run put up 35 points per game in 2009. Behind Evans, Broad Run's T.J Peeler led the Dulles District in rushing, and the Spartans rolled to their second consecutive state title...

Anthony James - Broad Run
Considered by the Broad Run coaching staff to be the most consistent offensive lineman, Anthony James provided leadership and stability to a unit that always came to play. James and the Spartans were nearly unstoppable offensively, putting up 492 points in 14 games. With James leading the way, Broad Run won their 3rd straight Dulles District title, and their second consecutive state championship.

Derek Dowrey - John Handley
One of two sophomores selected to the 2009 All Gameday team, Derek Dowrey is a rising star. Dowrey was a two way player for the Handley Judges, and rarely came off the field. His play on the offensive line was superb, and Handley rolled up big numbers because of it. Dowrey's play helped Handley win the region, and finish 12-1...Dowrey also finished with a team high 128 tackles on defense, and 8 sacks...

Khamrone Kolb - Lake Braddock
With a frame that NFL scouts look for, Lake Braddock's Khamrone Kolb carried the Bruins on his shoulders all season long with his play on the offensive line. Kolb was a dominant run blocker, and an even better protector of quarterback Michael Nebrich. With Kolb anchoring the line, Lake Braddock put up 472 points en route to their first appearance in the state championship game. Kolb will play next year at Penn State...

Doug Murrell - Millbrook
When opposing teams played Millbrook, they left remembering Pioneer offensive lineman Doug Murrell. Murrell was the anchor to the Pioneer offensive line, and his toughness helped them rally to make the second season. Behind Murrell, the Pioneers made the playoffs for the second time in the last 3 years...

Dan Golman - Robinson
The Robinson Rams re-established their dominance in the region this past fall, and offensive lineman Dan Golman deserves a ton of credit as to why. Golman anchored Mark Bendorf's offensive unit, and helped the Rams put up 29 points per game in 2009. The Rams advanced to the regional semifinals, and won 10 games again for the first time since 2004...

Jay Whitmire - T.C Williams
The T.C Williams Titans nearly made the post-season for the first time since 1990, and their success was due in part to the play of offensive lineman Jay Whitmire. Whitmire is big and strong, and one of the most physically imposing players in the region. With Whitmire leading the way, the Titans put up 21 points per game in 2009...

Jimmy Long - Battlefield
The Battlefield Bobcats made big strides in 2009, and the play of their offensive line was a big reason why. Jimmy Long was the leader of that unit, helping the Bobcats put up 28 points per game. Long's toughness was evident in every game, as Battlefield continually ran the ball better late in contests. Long helped the Bobcats win the region for the first time in school history, and win 12 games in 2009...

Austin Mayhugh - Oakton
Before getting hurt late in the season, Oakton's Austin Mayhugh had put together an outstanding senior season at center. Mayhugh was the most consistent performer on the Cougar offensive line, and Oakton made the playoffs for the 2nd straight season with his leadership. Mayhugh's play helped Oakton score 19 points per game in 2009...

Justin Haines - Sherando
Right from the start, Sherando's Justin Haines made a huge impact for the Warriors. With 8 seconds left against Park View, Haines knocked through a 43 yard field goal to beat the Patriots, and later did the same thing against Millbrook late in the season. Haines also was outstanding as the team's kickoff specialist, continually pinning the opposing teams back inside their 20 yard line. Haines finished 2009 making 5 of 9 field goals, including two from outside of 30 yards, and 1 from beyond 40 yards. He also converted 23 of 27 extra points...

John McConnell - West Springfield
Regarded by many to be the best pure kicker in the region, John McConnell earns a roster spot on the All Gameday Team because he was truly amazing this season. McConnell finished 2009 with 19 made field goals, 27 extra points, and he had 8 touchbacks on kickoffs. McConnell made an amazing 8 field goals over 40 yards this past fall...
