LEESBURG, VA - On Saturday January 23, 2010 the Gameday Crew welcomed 50 of the best players in the Northern Region to Bunkers in Leesburg, Virginia for the 8th annual All Gameday Banquet. These players represented the top talent in the 2009 season on the gridiron as selected by Gameday. Players and families enjoyed a wonderful banquet and watched a DVD highlighting all of the winners, as owner Andy Hayes made the trophy presentations...

DEFENSIVE LINE:

Frank Foreman - Broad Run
Easily the most disruptive defensive lineman in the area, Frank Foreman is selected to his second All Gameday team in the last two seasons. Foreman fought injuries early, but came back to help lead Broad Run to another undefeated season and championship. Foreman finished 2009 with 14 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 46 total tackles, and 1 forced fumble...

Robert Hayes - Park View
One of the most intense players on this year's All Gameday Team, Robert Hayes had another standout year for the Park View Patriots. Hayes, who is a two time All Gameday selection, makes the team this year for his play on the defensive side of the ball. The hard nosed defensive tackle helped lead Park View back into the playoffs, and to their 2nd regional championship game in the last 3 years. Hayes finished with 71 total tackles, 23.5 tackles for a loss, and 9.5 sacks in his senior season...

Rob Burns - Stone Bridge
At 6 ft 7, Stone Bridge's Rob Burns is tough to miss on a football field. Burns is also hard to block from his defensive end position, where he accumulated 62 total tackles and a team best 8 sacks in 2009. Burns also had two pass knockdowns during his junior season, where he helped Stone Bridge win the region, and make another appearance in the state finals...

John Washington - Liberty
Regarded by many to be the most physical defensive end in the region, Liberty's John Washington was a man amongst boys in 2009. Washington led the Eagles back to the playoffs for the second straight year, and led the Liberty defense to one of their best seasons in recent years. Washington finished with 58 total tackles, 9.5 sacks, and one forced fumble...

Elijah Washington - Handley
When Elijah Washington wants to get to the football, few can stop him, and that proved true again in 2009. Washington was a force from his defensive end position, leading the Judges to their second straight Northwestern District championship. His clutch play in big games helped the Judges win the region, and host the state semifinals...Washington is a two time All Gameday selection...It was rare that teams decided to run at Washington, who finished with 54 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 forced fumbles...

Kevin Samson - Madison
A tenacious player who's motor never stops, Madison's Kevin Samson was the heartbeat for the Warhawk defense in 2009, leading them once again into the playoffs. Samson was named the Liberty District defensive player of the year, and finished his senior season with 71 tackles, 7 sacks, and two pass knockdowns...

Noah Cundall - James Wood
With the regular season winding down, the James Wood defense began playing its best football of the year. Noah Cundall was a big reason why too. Cundall was unblock-able, forcing turnovers, and wrecking havoc in the backfield. He finished 2009 with 41 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 1 forced fumble...

Scott Stangeby - Oakton
One thing that is always true at Oakton is they play strong defense. Senior Scott Stangeby stood out from his defensive line position for Joe Thompson's team, as they made their second consecutive playoff appearance. Stangeby finished 2009 with 110 tackles, 11.5 sacks and 27 tackles for a loss, while registering 4 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery...

Wasim Abasi - Lake Braddock
Few players play with the intensity that Lake Braddock's Wasim Abasi plays with, and his efforts in 2009 helped pave the way for a tremendous finish for the Bruins. Abasi was a disruptive force in the middle of the Bruin defensive line, finishing with 102 tackles, 6 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, and 2 forced fumbles. He also blocked a kick in his senior season, and helped Lake Braddock storm all the way to the state finals...
LINEBACKERS:

Shawn Branham - Sherando
There was not a better linebacker in Group AA than Sherando's Shawn Branham. Branham was everywhere, and made play after play for the Warriors as they finished 9-3 in 2009. Branham had several games where he had over 10 tackles, and his play paced the Warrior defense to one of their best in recent years. Branham finished with 150 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 blocked kick...

Johnny Meier - Broad Run
The leader of the Broad Run defense was senior Johnny Meier. As the coaches put it, without Johnny Meier, there would be no state championship for the Spartans. Meier finished his senior campaign with 109 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 sacks. His leadership and tough play helped keep Broad Run's opponents to under 12 points per game...

Chase Williams - Loudoun County
With high expectations put on him, Chase Williams delivered each and every week for the Loudoun County Raiders. Williams finished his 2009 season as the leading tackler for the Raiders, helping them make the Group AA Region II playoffs for the second time in as many years. Williams compiled 129 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries. He will continue his play next fall at Virginia Tech...

Devin Stonier - James Wood
When you watch the Colonels play, #43 stands out in every game. Devin Stonier put together a strong senior season for James Wood, leading them back to the playoffs once again in 2009. Stonier put together 139 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 3 force fumbles, and had 3 interceptions. He also blocked two kicks this season...

Brian Laiti - Robinson
Arguably the best overall defensive player in the region, Virginia Tech commit Brian Laiti lived up to all of the hype and more. Laiti finished his senior season with 123 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, and 4 sacks. Laiti helped the Rams win 10 games, and make the Northern Region playoffs for the 10th time in the last 11 years...

Josh Hogan - W.T Woodson
W.T Woodson put together their best season since 2004, and senior Josh Hogan was a big reason why. Hogan was named the Patriot District defensive player of the year, and led all Cavalier defenders in tackles. He finished his 2009 season with 63 solo tackles, 47 assists, 2.5 sacks, and 10.5 tackles for a loss. Hogan also had 2 forced fumbles and broke up 8 passes...

Christian Delgado - Battlefield
Battlefield's most tenacious defender was without question Christian Delgado. The senior linebacker was nearly impossible to block, and when opposing quarterbacks threw his way, he made them pay with several huge interceptions. Delgado and the Bobcats held their opponents to 12 points per game, and won the Northwest Region Championship for the first time in school history. Delgado racked up 126 total tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in his outstanding senior campaign...

Eric Wright - R.E Lee
Few players performed with the level of intensity than Lee's Eric Wright. Wright transferred in to Lee for his senior season, and his impact was felt immediately. With the tough nosed linebacker leading the Lancer defense, Lee ran to their best finish this decade. Wright finished his senior season with 91 total tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions, and 3 sacks...
DEFENSIVE BACKS:

Joey Quigg - Broad Run
One of the fastest players on the field, Broad Run's Joey Quigg was a legit shutdown cornerback this past fall. Quigg finished his senior season with 58 total tackles, and 9 pass break ups. His 4 interceptions led all Spartan defensive backs in 2009. Quigg will graduate having never lost a regular season game as a starter...

Scott Rolin - Briar Woods
One of the toughest players in the region, Briar Woods safety Scott Rolin continually played with a motor that never stopped in 2009. Rolin's physical play helped Briar Woods limit their opponents to just 15.9 points per game this past fall. The junior finished with 73 total tackles and 6 interceptions in 2009...

Tommy Sedeski - Park View
When you played Park View, you had to account for senior Tommy Sedeski. Sedeski starred on all sides of the ball, but his play on defense is what earned him an All Gameday selection. Sedeski filled the alley as good as any safety in the area, and his knack for making big plays helped Park View roll all the way to the regional championship game. Sedeski finished 2009 with 61 total tackles from his safety position, 5 pass break ups, and 1 interception. He also scored 14 total touchdowns with 2 of those coming on punt returns...

David Carter - Handley
In all 13 games Handley played this season, senior David Carter showed up big. Carter was a key contributor to a Judges defense that dominated the opposition in 2009, giving up just 11 points per game. Carter was responsible for locking down the other team's best receiver, and he delivered each week with impressive results. He finished 2009 second on his team in tackles with 106 to go along with 3 interceptions...

Thomas Stickford - Lake Braddock
If there was one player who continually made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks, it was Lake Braddock's Thomas Stickford. Stickford had an All Gameday best 9 interceptions, and returned 4 of them for touchdowns. His two interceptions late against W.T Woodson helped the Bruins punch their ticket to the state playoffs, where they advanced to the championship game for the first time in school history...

Ryan Sweet - Westfield
It's hard to put a description to how valuable Ryan Sweet was to Westfield's football team in 2009. Sweet rarely came off the football field, making plays on special teams, and offensively. However, his play at cornerback was a big reason why the Westfield defense had another strong season. Sweet's play helped limit the opposition to just 17 points per game in 2009. His key blocked kick against Robinson in overtime helped put Westfield back on track toward the Concore District Championship...

Andre Simmons - South County
A true ball hawk, Andre Simmons is also one of the hardest hitting safeties on this year's All Gameday Team. Simmons helped South County hold their opponents to 19.8 points per game in 2009, and behind their defensive leader's play, the Stallions once again made an appearance in the post season. Simmons picked off 3 passes in 2009, and made 75 tackles. He also recovered two fumbles. He will play at Vanderbilt next fall...

Spenser Rositano - Stone Bridge
It's not often your starting safety leads your team in tackles, but then again most teams don't have a Spenser Rositano. Rositano had an incredible season for the Bulldogs, tallying 95 first hit tackles, and another 33 assists. Rositano also added 3 fumble recoveries, 5 pass break ups, and blocked 2 kicks in his junior season...
