CENTREVILLE, VA - In the latest sports news from Centreville High School...

*Congratulations to senior Jenna Richmond on being named to the United States Under-20 Women's National Soccer Team. Jenna was one of 20 players in the country, and the only high school student, to be selected to the team. The team is currently competing in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 qualifying tournament in Guatemala City, Guatemala, through January 30th; they got off to a great start with a 6-0 win over Jamaica on Thursday, Jan. 21. The two finalists and the third-place finisher will qualify to play in the finals of the 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup this summer in Germany.

*On Friday, January 22, senior Yazid Zouaimia ran the 2nd fastest two-mile run in the nation for this winter season. He ran the two-mile race at Liberty University in 9 minutes, 16 seconds. At the same indoor track meet, freshman Chan Young Lee ran a 4:46 mile and became the 4th fastest freshman in Virginia, qualifying him for the freshman mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals Track Meet in Boston, MA on March 13-14, 2010. Sophomore Chris Jones was a second ahead of Lee, running a 4:45 mile. The boy's Indoor Track team is favored to win the Concorde District Title Meet, Jan.28-Feb.4, at the Prince Georges Sportsplex in Landover, Maryland.

*Congratulations to the CVHS Varsity Gymnastics team for its second-place performance at their meet at McLean High School on January 11th. In addition to the team's 2nd place finish, freshman Megan Riedel finished 3rd on the vault, 1st on the uneven bars, 1st on the floor exercise, and 1st all around.

*The Girls Swim Team placed 6th out of 26 teams in the 21st Annual Kecoughtan Invitational, held at the Midtown Aquatic Center in Newport News, VA on Saturday, January 9th. The girls' 200-meter medley relay team, comprised of senior Sana Alloo, senior Natalie Leake, junior Taylor Avery and freshman Abby McCranie, finished with a 2nd-place finish & new season's best time.

*The Centreville Lady Wildcats held off a determined Robinson Rams Team on Robinson's Senior Night, Friday Jan. 22, with a hard fought 48-44 victory. The Cats were led by junior Erin Meador with 19 points and 8 rebounds, including a perfect 6 for 6 from the line. Sophomore Chaney Forbush added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Senior Jane Kim came off the bench and added a career high nine rebounds in the victory. With the win Centreville improves to 6-10 and 1-4 in the Concorde District. In more Lady Wildcat news, Erin Meador tied the single game scoring record for Centreville High School with 31 points as the Wildcats defeated the Langley High School Saxons. Congratulations Erin.

*Junior Cameron Owens scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter of a 66-45 victory over the Robinson Rams on Friday, January 22nd. Owens has converted on 20 of his last 21 free throw attempts. Senior Warren Denny (20 points, 10 rebounds) earned his 6th double-double in a row, while senior Nick Tisinger had 5 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while committing just one turnover. Tisinger has just 2 total turnovers in his last three games. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 13-2 (4-1 in the Concorde District).

*On 23-24 January, the Centreville Wrestling Team participated in the Big Blue Invitational at Christiansburg High School, Christiansburg, VA.
The team received an 8th place finish out of 32 teams. Individuals that placed in their weight class were: Ricky Williams - 135 lbs - 5th Place; Jackson Islin - 140 lbs - 4th Place; Martin Seneca - 171 lbs - 5th Place; and Dan Johnson - 215 lbs - 3rd Place.
