STERLING, VA - At 2:00 this afternoon Park View High School senior Brandon Lee accepted a full-scholarship to join the James Madison University football team next season. Brandon and his mother, Diane, met with JMU Head Coach Mickey Matthews's yesterday evening. The meeting left Brandon feeling excited about the opportunities that JMU presented, both academically and athletically, leading him to finalize his selection this afternoon.
During his career at Park View High School, Brandon established himself as one of the top playmakers in the Dulles District on both sides of the football. On the offensive side of the football, Brandon was a dual threat Quarterback who amassed 2,273 yards passing and 23 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1301 yards and 17 touchdowns in his two seasons as the starter.
Playing defense only his senior season, Brandon's physical presence helped anchor the Patriot defense. Brandon accounted for 57 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 4 blocked kicks. His play during the 2009 season earned him 1st Team All-Dulles District honors as both a Quarterback and Defensive Back, including being named the Dulles District Division 3 Offensive Player of the Year. He went on to earn 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team A.P. All-State honors as a Defensive Back.
As Brandon moves on to JMU, it is expected that he will remain on the defensive side of the football as an Outside Linebacker and/or a Strong Safety in the Dukes' scheme. Brandon's radiant smile upon informing Coach Clayton Matthew's of his decision was evidence that the choice was a fulfillment of a dream.
After informing Coach Matthew's, Brandon stated, "It's exciting. I think they have a great program and I'm excited to show up, work hard, and try to earn a spot. But the opportunity is there and that's all I can ask for."
Brandon is currently a member of the Patriots varsity basketball squad, and is planning on joining the Track and Field team this spring.
Park View High School will be holding a signing ceremony for Brandon on Wednesday, February 3. More details on the ceremony will be available in the near future.
