Fans Enjoy "Ice Hockey" Nights in Ashburn

ASHBURN, VA - Friday nights is becoming "Ice Hockey" nights in Ashburn as fans are attending the action at the Ice House in droves to root on their favorite local Ashburn High School teams. This past Friday night featured two key games in which all three local Ashburn high schools played key pivitol games in the Northern Virginia Scholarstic Hockey League. A jammed packed house was on hand to watch the local high school action.

The first key game at the Ice House in Ashburn featured the Broad Run Spartans versus NVSHl North Division first place Langley High School. The underdog Spartans fell behind in the 2nd period when Langley's forward John Marie Dine scored to make it 1 to 0. The game would feature a battle of defenses with Langley goaltender Brendan Mullen making several key saves protecting the 1 to lead. Then late in the second period Broad Run Spartan senior Ray D'Argenio would tie the game at 1-1 scoring on a pass from linemate Michael Bauernfiend. The third period feature more Spartans scoring opportunity and it look like Broad Run would take the lead late in the games as freshman forward Taylor Rook broke free on a pass from D'Argenio and hit the post in what would have been the game winner. The game would end in a 1-1 tie in a very exciting game on the ice.

The featured second game of the evening was a battle for first place in the NVSHL West Division as Stone Bridge Bulldogs would remain undefeated with a 4 to 0 victory over rival Briar Woods. Stone Bridge would get two goals from forward Andrew Barton and one goal apiece by Anthony Moffa and Parker Delaney to lead the way. Bulldog goaltender Tanner Jones gained the shutout stopping al 9 Briar Woods Falcons shots. Jones's play in the net this season, along with Senior Bob Burke has been a key all season long for the Bulldgos success.

Mark down Friday night February 12th on your calendars as the Ashburn Ice House figures to be packed to capacity as heated rivals Stone Bridge and Broad Run will face off against one another in yet what figures to be another epic battle in their long running rivalary. Last year matchup featured the undefeated Bulldogs jumping out to a 4 to 0 lead before Broad Run rallied for three straight goals to pull within 4-3 and was pressuring Stone Bridge late in the game before holding on for the victory.
