David Finder: Churchill Ice Hockey

Finder, a forward for Churchill, is a big reason why his team is currently eyeballing the top spot in the league.

POTOMAC, MD - Ice Hockey is a sport that involves being able to have a vision as to what will be taking place on the ice then being able to capitalize upon it. When everyone on the team has the same shared ideals the overall vision of everyone improves dramatically as the impossible once again become possible.
In the case of the Churchill Bulldogs they are rebuilding after being disappointed in the state championship last year where they lost to Wootton in a close 3 - 2 game. Gone are ten key players from last years team, leaving several seniors to fill the void.
The team is being led by senior standout David Finder who is once again leading the team to another productive season through his solid leadership and play making abilities.
Intensity
So far this year Finder is off to an impressive start with him posting eleven goals and seven assists in the teams games this season. Part of the reason for this tremendous initial success is the overall focused practices that they have where the team attempts to mirror the type of high pressure situations that they will face during the games.
They then work on basic skills and conditioning combined with team skills to provide everyone with the best all around practice. These elements have been paying off so far this season as Churchill has been dominating every single opponent that they have faced.
One of the key factors in helping contribute to this tremendous success is the leadership that Finder has provided during practice where he is focused on making the team as successful as possible. Then, when Finder is not working out with the team he is constantly working on pushing himself individually through extra time on the ice, weight training and running.
Together the combination these different elements have made Finder physically strong enough to play with some of the best in the division.
Pure Enjoyment
At first one would assume the Finder is like the traditional ice hockey players that would like to go much further in the sport either through the inter collegiate or professional levels. Yet, when you visit with him you find out that he has much bigger reasons for playing ice hockey, the pure enjoyment of the sport and to be a part of the team.
To often these days many people lose sight of why they play sports, in the case of Finder it is refreshing to see someone who wants to play the sport for enjoyment. Combine this with the fact that the team has common goal of wanting to avenge what happened last year means that the Finder and the rest of the Bulldogs could enjoy the experience of playing intense ice hockey because of this overall philosophy.
This could make Churchill a team to watch because the leadership and the team have something to prove yet are having fun while they do it.
More Focused
This year Finder is more focused than ever about what he wants out of life. In the future he would like to continue playing ice hockey in college but through the club system. He has many people that are always pushing him to go to the next level this includes his coach Rob Paine and his parents.
Together they have given him the encouragement and self confidence to be able to excel not only in ice hockey but in life. This can be seen with him clearly knowing what he wants for the team as well as for himself.
This confidence is contagious because when one of the team leaders and the top scorers is having these kinds of thoughts the rest of team is more than likely thinking the same thing.
This means that when the Bulldogs face some of their more challenging opponents they are not only going to have to beat Churchill physically they are going to have to beat them mentally.
With such challenges in the way and a deep desire to avenge what happens last year could be all the motivation both Finder as well the Bulldogs need to go all the way.
