CENTREVILLE, VA - It took a fourth-quarter comeback and a barrage of free throws in overtime, but the Centreville Wildcats emerged victorious 84-72 on their home floor in a Tuesday night catfight with the Oakton Cougars.

The contest seesawed back and forth throughout the bulk of the game's first three quarters and into the fourth, with both teams starting on fire from beyond the arc.

An Oakton burst late in the fourth put the visitors up by five, a huge lead in the context of such a wild, nip-and-tuck battle.

Centreville's superstar, do-everything guard Warren Denny, took over, drilling a huge 3-ball from far beyond the line, then grabbing an offensive rebound on the next trip and athletically twisting himself to put it back and knot the game at 66.

Overtime soon ensued.

The sides traded buckets during the opening moments of the extra period. The momentum swung with three minutes left and the Wildcats up two, when a loose-ball foul called against Oakton gave cause for several Cougars to use unwise words with the referees.

A pair of technical fouls were called. Denny drilled three of four freebies, putting all-important distance between the two teams.

Denny then blocked a layup, and Centreville played keepaway for much of the remaining two minutes. Denny and Cameron Owens drilled their free throws down the stretch to balloon the margin to its final 12, and escape with the in-district victory against the valiant Cougars.

Denny led all scorers with 33 points while performing his usual yeoman's work of grabbing rebounds on both ends and initiating fast-breaks with his stupifying speed. Owens chipped in 18.

For Oakton, the combination of point guard Kris McNeil and guard Andrew Daniels kept the Cougars competitive throughout. Daniels put down 30 points on mostly outside shooting, and McNeil slashed inside to deliver a multitude of assists, despite not scoring any points himself.

Denny and McNeil were selected by the Gameday Broadcast Network as this contest's PlaymakerRecruitingReport.com Playmakers Of The Game.

The Wildcats raise their mark to 12-2, including 3-1 in the Concorde District. The Cougars fall to 8-6, 1-3 in the Concorde.
