Phoebus Punches Ticket Back To State Finals
HAMPTON, VA - On a wet, muddy, frigid, and miserable afternoon in Hampton, the Phoebus Phantoms held off the surprising and intriguing Hanover Hawks to win Saturday's State Semifinal match-up by a slim 10-7 score, and earned a chance to garner back-to-back State Titles. At the time of this publication, an opponent for the Phantoms had yet to be determined, with Saturday's contest between Stone Bridge and Massapponax having been postponed until Sunday afternoon due to inclement weather.
From the onset, it was clear that the muddy field conditions, coupled with the cold and stinging rain, would play a major factor in the afternoon's contest. With several players (and referees) routinely losing their footing, the two teams would have to rely solely on their featured rushers to carry the load.
