Crabbers continue Dukes losing streak to 32
Hampton vs. Gloucester: 12/4/2009
By Matt Aiton
The Hampton Crabbers kept the Gloucester Dukes losing streak going to 32 in a 78-45 victory Friday night in the Hampton High Gymnasium. With 19 points from freshman, Anthony Barber and 15 from Junior Ramoan Edwards, the Crabbers imposed their will. Gloucester under new coach Christopher Morgan put up a good fight and was never really out of the game until mid-fourth quarter.
Gloucester was lead by senior, Shawn Smith who had 13 points. Smith was the main scoring threat for the Dukes and played like a legitimate All-District candidate, but couldn't lead his team onto the winning side tonight. Hampton shows that it is well coached and executes with precision. The Crabbers had no problem breaking the Dukes 2-2-1 full court press and once they set up in their half-court offense, ran it to near perfection with sharp, crisp passes and excellent vision to always seem and find the open man.
On defense, Hampton ran zone most of the night and Gloucester had a real hard time getting into their offense as they were forced to settle for long jump shots and played along the perimeter almost the entire game. Hampton showed why it is one of the teams to beat in the Peninsula District with a hard fought victory over a much improved Gloucester team.

Player of the Game:
presented by Lendys - Freshman guard Anthony Barber hit big shots in moments when the game could have still swung in Gloucester's favor. He finished the night with 19 points, which included 3 three pointers. An impressive effort for such a young talented player in the Peninsula District.
