Both the Battlefield Bobcats and Lake Braddock Bruins started 2009 with high expectations. They were looking to build on the successes and make up for shortfalls of the 2008 season and this Saturday afternoon both will be looking for a state championship berth. The winner of this contest will move on to play next Saturday afternoon at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville against either Oscar Smith or Thomas Dale, a game being played this Saturday afternoon also.

Battlefield enters as the Northwest Region champion after defeating Osbourn Park a week ago 32-27 in a game that has been labeled a Gameday Instant Classic. The Bobcats are 12-0 for the first time in school history and are looking for their first state championship appearance as well.

Lake Braddock dispatched W.T. Woodson last weekend to claim the Northern Region title. The Bruins are 11-2 entering the contest which is the most wins in a single season over the past 10 years. The Bruins have never made an appearance in the state championship game, which they will do with a win over the Bobcats.

Battlefield, which opened up for competition in 2005 is in the postseason for the 3rd consecutive season. Lake Braddock is making just their 3rd postseason appearance over the past 10 years. Both teams won their first playoff game of the 2000's earlier in these playoffs; it was the first in school history for Battlefield. We're going to take a look at some of the important stats and players that will be featured in Saturday's tilt for a berth in the state finals next weekend.
