Gameday Power Poll - Week 14

Ricky Wingate and the rest of Stone Bridge defense did the best they could to hold Lee's star running back Idreis Augustus in check. As a result, they held Lee to 10 points and claimed the school's sixth region crown.

And then there were five.

While small in number, they're high and mighty in status. It's these five schools that have made a recent addition to their school's trophy case and are the ones fighting for the ultimate prize, which of course is a state title.

For some in this elite group of five, they left no doubt why they deserved to be called champion. For others, they were making history.

Anyway you cut it, for either the dynastic programs such as Stone Bridge or Handley, or whether it was programs such as Broad Run, Battlefield or Lake Braddock who all recently acquired either their first or second region title, this past weekend was a special moment as memories were made and dreams were realized.

Now it's on to the state semi-finals, which is where the AAA teams from our area struggled last year. Only two teams, Broad Run and Osbourn, were able to advance to the title game.

With the Northwest Region paired with the Northern, we'll only get one or at the most two schools that will make their way out to Scott Stadium. For our #1 team in Broad Run, they'll get their toughest test of the season as they face a Powhatan team which has looked more indestructible than The Terminator. So needless to say, this weekend will be very interesting for the area teams.

The time for celebration ends Monday morning for our five teams left standing, as it's back to work, preparing for a team even better than the one they faced last weekend...
