So it's over. Well at least the First Season is at least.
We started off 2009 with 57 area teams and now at the start of the Second Season, we're suddenly down to 28. By this Friday, that number could again be cut in half to 14. Before anyone knows it, it'll be December 12th and we'll be freezing our you-know-what's off and watching a new champion be crowned.
That's a long ways away from the grueling, hot and exhausting two-a-days that started back in early August, but now that it's mid-November, we're now finding ourselves on the path towards determining a champion.
It seems weird to think that 11 weeks of football have already passed by, but now we're here: the Second Season. It's this second-half of the season where names such as Keith Payne and Brandon Hogan become immortalized and teams such as the 2003 Westfield squad become remembered forever.
Last year, we saw Broad Run make an indelible impression on everyone in their community and it's something no one will certainly forget anytime soon.
But who's going to be the hero this year? Will we remember the team from Northern Virginia who went down to Charlottesville and shocked the whole country (think 2005 Oakton on this one) by beating Oscar Smith? Or is this maybe the year a certain team from Ashburn fully cements their name as next AA dynasty to have emerged out of the Commonwealth?
We're on the road to finding that out right now as the Second Season starts and we'll get our answer come December.
