CHANTILLY, VA - Homecoming's King & Queen were crowned at Westfield Friday Night, but the reigning "King" of Northern Region football continued to struggle, as Westfield fell to 1-4 for the first time in school history with a 28-7 loss to #8 Woodson.

The Cavilers scored on each of their first 2 possessions. QB Connor Reilly sparked the opening Drive for Woodson, with an 18 yard completion to Mike Le and a 17 yard option run that helped penetrate deep into Westfield Territory. After Running Back James Johnson reeled off 16 yards, Reilly scrambled to his left and found TE Josh Hogan stationed in the end zone for a 26 yard TD capping the 75 yard opening drive and making it 7-0

After Westfield turned the ball over on downs at the Cavalier 36, 3 plays later Reilly eluded a heavy rush, and found Bertrand Ngampa for a 51 yard gain to the Westfield 8. After Ngampa rushed to the 1, Reilly waltzed into the end zone unmolested for a rushing score and a 14-0 Cavalier lead.

Maybe the Cavs got a bit greedy as the ensuing kickoff was a failed onside attempt, that Mark Gibson returned for Westfield into Cavalier territory. Danny Fenyak would then close the 1st quarter by driving the Bulldogs inside the Woodson 5 as the 1st period expired. Fenyak completed a huge 4th down to WR Mack Spees to set up the 1st and goal, and then plunged home from 2 yards on the opening play of the 2nd quarter to cut the Woodson lead in half.

But with just over 6 minutes to go in the 1st half, Colin Dempsey would take a 2 yard completion from Connor Reilly and race to the end zone for 66 yards, pushing the Cavs lead to 21-7.

Westfield had a great opportunity to pull within 7 on the final drive of the 1st half, but a heavy blitz on 4th and 1 from the 5, forced an errant throw from Danny Fenyak, and Westfield's offense never really recovered. When the Bulldog backs weren't getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage, Woodson Corners Alex Bosh and Charles Basil were blanketing Westfield receivers; a crew depleted when WR Gary Turner couldn't go because of an ankle problem

While Westfield's defense did intercept 2 Woodson passes in the 2nd half, and held the Cavaliers at bay early in the half, bad field position did in the Bulldogs. Their first 3 possessions of the 2nd half started within their own 20 yard line.

But Westfield's hopes would deflate, when with just over 2:30 to go in the third, Dylan Doty and Danny Fenyak would get crossed up on a hand-off, allowing the ball to hit the turf and Woodson Linebacker Logan Hancock fell on the ball at the 16. Bertrand Ngampa then scampered home on the next play to give Woodson a 28-7 lead, and it's first ever win over the Bulldogs.
