VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Woodside Wolverines proved that they belong in 757gameday's top ten poll as they gave the Bethel Bruins a 67-35 thumping at Darling Stadium on Saturday afternoon. This was a very important game in the Peninsula District, as both teams were tied for second with 3-1 records in district play. Woodside showed early that they were the dominant team by establishing a 17 point lead before Bethel could even get their offense moving. Bethel gave a hard fought effort with plenty of excitement, but in the end coach Dodson's Wolverines were just too much to handle.
Woodside took control early as quarterback Aaron Evans lead his team downfield, and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 4:34 remaining in the first quarter, to make the score 7-0 after a made PAT. Later in the quarter, Woodside senior tailback, Marquis Frazier joined the action by punching in a 5-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
At the start of the second quarter, Woodside senior kicker, Chase Bradley made the score 17-0 with a 26-yard field goal. Bethel would then answer shortly after, with a long drive that was executed to perfection and capped off by an Isaih Gibson 1-yard touchdown run. It was less than three minutes later when Woodside would strike again with a 10-yard, Evans to Brandon Burton touchdown pass, making the score 24-7. With little time left in the first half, quarterback Rashad Manley drove his Bruins down the field, and then connected on 19-yard touchdown pass to receiver Stephen Clark.
With 1:13 remaining in the half, Bethel hoped they could enter the locker room only down ten, but Woodside and senior tailback Jarrell Cooper had other ideas. Cooper, after a series of big plays punched in a 6-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds left to play and after a successful two-point conversion, made the score 32-14 at half.
The second half had a very entertaining start as Bethel junior fullback, Sam Bennett broke through the middle of Woodside's defense and rumbled his way to 60-yard touchdown run. This made the score 32-21 after a made PAT.
The very first play after the kickoff, Woodside quarterback, Aaron Evans calls his own number and breaks a couple of arm tackles on his way to an 80-yard touchdown run, making the score 39-21. Bethel, not two minutes later scores again with a 25-yard touchdown pass, Manley to Jamal Parker, putting the score at 39-28. That was the closest the Bruins would get as Woodside proceeded to score twice more in the quarter and pull away from Bethel.
On the night, Woodside quarterback, Aaron Evans was 9-19 passing with 211 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception. He also carried the ball 19 times for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tailback Jarrell Cooper had a total of 14 touches for 236 total yards and 2 touchdowns. Tailback Marquis Frazier shared the load with 15 carries for 172 yards with 3 scores of his own.
On the other side, Bethel quarterback, Rashad Manley connected on 22-45 passes for a massive 364 yards with 2 touchdowns, but 5 interceptions. Receiver Jamal Parker had 10 catches for 167 yards and 2 scores, and UVA commit Rijo Walker added 10 touches for 199 yards and 1 interception on defense for 10 yards.

Coach Nieman's Analysis
Presented By Virginia Center for Athletic Medicine
Woodside showed everyone that they are a legit contender to win states this year. They should have beat Phoebus last week if not for a bad snap, or a miracle 4th down and 15 by Paul Morant. Coach Dodson has some serious play makers for him this year with the likes of Evans, Frazier, Soloman, and Cooper. This team is definitely one of the best in the state, in my opinion top four.
