Williams Will Be A Hurricane
The Norfolk talented linebacker Travis Williams, who plays at Lake Taylor has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Williams, a four star recruit according to rivals had over twenty offers, Including ones from LSU, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Michigan, and Tennessee.
Williams didn't always think he was going to be joining the "U" fraternity. "I didn't think Miami would offer me a scholarship," Williams said. "So one day after I got a letter from Miami, I was like `I'm going to send my tape to them.' I told my coach to send it, and he was like `Okay, we'll see what happens.' I called my coach the next week and Randy Shannon had called my coach to offer."
The 6-foot-3, 205 pound outside linebacker narrowed his list down to three schools in August. UNC, WVU and Miami made his final cut, but the Hurricanes won the services of the great Norfolk talent . Coach Hank Sawyer says "he has never coached a better talent in all his years of coaching."
Williams also liked the fact that Miami does a good job putting players into the NFL. "If you look at the NFL now, I think Miami is up there with the most alumni in the league."
If Williams numbers in college meet the ones he had in high school then he shouldn't have a promlem getting to the NFL . His junior year he recorded 78 tackles, 14 sacks, 12 quarterback hurries and forced three fumbles. Offensivley he had 31 receptions for 602 yards and four touchdowns, earning him All-Eastern District and All-Eastern Region honors on both sides of the football as well as being chosen 2nd Team All-State by the Associated Press.
Lake Taylor (5-2) is No. 5 in the latest power poll rankings and is in a four way tie for first place in the Eastern District. They lost their first game to Battlefield this year, a game that Williams did not play in and lost last week to Maury.
