Liberty Rolls Over Warren Co.

FRONT ROYAL, VA - The Liberty Eagles racked up 329 yards rushing en route to a 36-6 thumping against new Evergreen district rival Warren County on Friday night. As much success as the Eagles (4-2) had on the ground they found the end zone first via the pass as Lou Chiccehitto connected with James Rogers on a 23-yard score to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead in the early stages of the 2nd quarter.

Freshman QB Tyler Post got Warren County (1-5) on the board just 4 minutes later when he dove in from the 1-yard line to pull the Wildcats within one point after Willie Propps blocked the extra point. Post's touchdown was set up by a 77-yard run by Marty Haley. Haley's run accounted for nearly half of Warren County's total yards as the Wildcats finished with 162 total yards.

Liberty RB Cortez Carter answered back just 21 seconds later with a 57-yard touchdown run of his own. Carter started the season banged up but is now back at 100% and its starting to show. Carter scored on a 26-yard run last week against Skyline and is starting to become a force on offense. Senior kicker Darwin Guevara drilled a 30-yard field goal just seconds before half time giving the Eagles a 17-6 going into the locker room.

Wayne Fleming returned to action after missing the last two games and made his presence felt in the third quarter as he ran for a 36-yard score. Fleming had another long touchdown run called back on a holding penalty and was without a doubt the fastest player on the field.

Starting LB Willie Propps got a taste of the offense as the Senior scored on a short run with 10:42 to go in the 4th quarter to give the Eagles a 29-6 lead. Propps had been playing with a large cast on his right hand all season and just had it removed this week. Propps adds yet another dimension to the Eagle ground attack that features a stable of proven runners.

Liberty's Anthony Budd capped off the scoring with a 24-yard run in the final minute of the game. Budd, only a sophomore showed great burst and a nose for the goal line on the play.

Liberty returns home on Friday night to face cross county rival Kettle Run at 7:30 at Kip Hull Field. Pre-game coverage begins at 7:00 with the "Integrated Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Pre-game show."
