Week 4: MoCo Football Predictions

Seneca Valley started the season 0-2, but had its first win shutting out previously undefeated Einstein last week. Damascus has looked good in its two wins, but was run over against Quince Orchard.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD - Week 4 of the football season is here! The last games in September will be in the books after this weekend. October is right around the corner and even though the leaves on the trees are just starting to show some color, we have yet to have any football weather. Looks like shorts and a t-shirt for the Greek tonight. Last week the Greek was 12-5 and is 36-15 for the season.

Week 4 is full of big games and some huge rivalries.

First we have one of the biggest rivalry games in the county:

Magruder (2-1) @ Sherwood (3-0)

Friday 6:30 p.m.

Even though the players parents shop at the same grocery stores, to say these teams don't like each other would be an understatement. In recent years this rivalry has been fairly one sided in favor of Sherwood. What most fans don't realize, Magruder is the last team to beat Sherwood at home (2006). Both rookie coaches who are coaching at their Alma Mater have had great starts (Pat Cilento, Sherwood 3-0 and Shawn Prather, Magruder 2-1) and have both played in this rivalry game during their high school career.
(Sherwood 31-7)

Damascus (2-1) @ Seneca Valley (1-2)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

This game was one that the Greek circled as a big game in the preseason. Seneca Valley started the season 0-2, but had its first win shutting out previously undefeated Einstein last week. Damascus has looked good in its two wins, but was run over against Quince Orchard. With tough games still left on its schedule Seneca Valley can't afford to go 1-3.
(Damascus 28-8)

Northwest (1-2) @ Quince Orchard (3-0)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

This is another game circled from the preseason, the Greek expected both teams to arrive to this game undefeated. The Cougars have looked good even though they had to come from behind last week to win over a very tough Whitman team. Northwest got its first win of the season against B-CC.
(Quince Orchard 42-13)

Paint Branch (2-1) @ Wootton (1-2)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Paint Branch fell from the undefeated last week in a hard fought game against Sherwood. The Panthers defense held the Warriors offense to 10 points. This week they face the wide-open offense of the Patriots. Wootton has had consecutive over-time games, losing by 1 point to Gaithersburg and beating Springbrook by 1 point.
(Paint Branch 35-21)

Gilman (2-2) @ Georgetown Prep (1-1)
Saturday 1 p.m.

Gilman was in a shootout against Good Counsel last week and Georgetown Prep was handed its first loss by Gonzaga.
(Gilman 38 -21)

Springbrook (2-1) @ Blair (1-2)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Springbrook suffered its first loss on overtime to Wootton last week. With many tough games left on their schedule Springbrook needs to get back on track. Blair on the other hand won its first game last week in a close 10-6 game against Wheaton. Springbrook should spoil the Blazers homecoming weekend.
(Springbrook 35-14)

Churchill (3-0) @ Richard Montgomery (0-3)

Friday 6:30 p.m.

Churchill handled perennial powers Gaithersburg and Seneca Valley in weeks 1 and 2, but then struggled against Walter Johnson last week. Richard Montgomery has been outscored 121-32 in its first three games this season
(Churchill 42-13)

Walter Johnson (0-3) @ Gaithersburg (1-2)

Friday 6:30 p.m.

Walter Johnson gave undefeated Churchill almost more than they could handle last week coming up on the short end of a 38-33 game. Gaithersburg is on the verge of being a top team in the 4A. The Trojans need to get this win before facing a tough Sherwood team at home for homecoming weekend.
(Gaithersburg 21-20)

Whitman (2-1) @ B-CC (0-3)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Whitman had Quince Orchard on the ropes before giving up the lead late in the game. The rest of the county better take notice that the Vikes are for real. After giving Paint Branch a good game in week 2 the Barons fell to Northwest in a 40-26 contest. B-CC might be the best winless team in the county.
(Whitman 28-8)

Northwood (1-2) @ Blake (1-2)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Northwood quarterback Jimmy Hessler will try to limit his interceptions and possibly even hand the ball off once or twice in this game. Blake will rely on their running game to beat Northwood.
(Northwood 21-14)

Good Counsel (3-0) @ Bishop O'Connell
Saturday 1:00 p.m.

After last week I would not kick to Good Counsel if I were coaching O'Connell.
(Good Counsel 35-0)

Watkins Mill (0-3) @ Clarksburg (3-0)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

What does Clarksburg have to do to get some respect? They have quietly beaten some of the counties best week after week and they are still not getting any love.
(Clarksburg 35-7)

Wheaton (1-2) @ Kennedy (1-2)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Wheaton opened the season with a huge win against B-CC and has faded. Kennedy started off slow and just won its first game.
(Kennedy 22-20)

Einstein (2-1) @ Poolesville (0-3)
Friday 6:30 p.m.

Einstein's running game will be too much for the Falcons.
(Einstein 29-7)

Riverdale Baptist @ Landon (2-0)
Friday 4:30 p.m.

Landon is still upset that the second string defense allowed a late touch down last week.
(Landon 28-0)

Rockville (3-0) @ Crossland (1-2)
Saturday 2:00 p.m.

Rockville is off to a surprising start and should improve to 4-0.
(Rockville 35-12)

Potomac (VA) @ Bullis (2-0)
Saturday 7:00 p.m.

Bullis has not been 2-0 since 2005! The Greek thinks they come back to earth.
(Potomac 21-14)

Maret @ Avalon (1-3)
Saturday 12:00 p.m.

Maret has yet to be scored on this season and appears to be too much for the Black Knights.
(Maret 35-6)
