Warrior Defense Does it Again

SANDY SPRING, MD. The Stormin' Warrior defense got it's third shutout in a row with a 10-0 shutout of cross-town rival Magruder.
This was both coaches first Magruder-Sherwood game as coaches, but have experience as players in this long time rivalry game. Shawn Prather won a state championship as Magruder's quarterback back in the 80's and Sherwood coach Pat Cilento did the same for the Warriors in the 90's.
This is the type of game when records really don't matter. This was a close drag out fight between two teams that don't like each other. Both teams finished with exactly 224 yards in total offense.
Magruder kicked off to Sherwood to start the game. Jamal Merritt took a handoff around the right side for a 59-yard touch down on the 4th play from scrimmage. After exchanging punts for the rest of the quarter, Sherwood's drive stalled on the Magruder 20-yard line. In came Andy Estrain for a 37-yard field goal to make it 10-0.
Later in the second quarter, Magruder got inside the Sherwood 10-yard line after a huge 37-yard run by Marquis Morgan. Two plays later facing 3rd and goal from the 1-yard line, Sherwood's defense made a huge stop.
Facing 4th and goal from the 1-yard line Magruder elected to go for the touchdown instead of the easy field goal. The Stormin' Warrior defense did it again stopping the Colonels for a 1-yard loss.
The second half was fairly uneventful with each team punting multiple times. Sherwood was inside the 5-yardline late in the game but elected to let time run out.
Sherwood (4-0) plays Gaithersburg (2-2) at home for homecoming next week. Magruder (2-2) plays Watkins Mill (0-4) at home for their homecoming.
