Quince Orchard Spoils Damascus Home Opener 37-13

DAMASCUS, MD - The game was heralded as a playoff level game; expectations of two high-powered teams to duke it out right from the beginning to the very end. Unfortunately, it did not go as expected.

In spite of the steady rain and drizzle, cloudy, overcast sky, there was a big turnout. The energy at Damascus High Stadium was cranked up complete with dynamic marching bands, enthusiastic cheer leading squad, and pumped up students and fans on both sides.

The game started with Quince Orchard winning the coin toss and choosing to receive. Moving the ball consistently against the Damascus defense, it did not take long to score the first touchdown, but failed to hit the extra point.

Next possession Damascus was able to move the ball but could not score points and turned the ball over.

On their next drive Quince Orchard seemed to effortlessly move the ball downfield and score yet another touchdown and this time putting it right between the uprights for the extra point.

With Damascus reeling back on their heels, they orchestrated an amazing drive, completing a long pass reception to a wide-open receiver to the 6-yard line and finished it by punching it in with a power run right up the middle for the touchdown. They were back in the game going into half-time with Quince Orchard leading 13-6.

The third quarter started off with both teams scoring back to back touchdowns and it was Quince Orchard 20, Damascus 13, looking like "we've got a game!" But three costly interceptions on Damascus' part led to 3 scores by Quince Orchard putting the game away for good with Quince Orchard definitely looking like the team to beat this year. Final score 37-13 Quince Orchard.
