Bennett No Longer Head Coach Of Ilanders

A shocker came across the Bay Rivers district on Wednesday after coach Bennett from the state champion Poquoson Islanders resigned to take the Athletic Director job. Lee Ann Hartley, the former A.D. at Poquoson left to teach special education at York High.

Bennett has been teaching physical education for the past 20 years, along with driver's education, but the thing he will miss most will be on the baseball field with players. "I am really going to miss practice that was my favorite time of the day."

Coach Bennett isn't just leaving behind a team. He is leaving behind a team that is loaded with talent and is the favorites to win another state championship. With players like pitcher Kyle Crockett and short stop Chad Pinder coming back it was really hard for coach Bennett to walk away. "Yes they have the potential to be very good."

Though he is leaving the dugout and classroom, Bennett will still be around athletics. "I still get to deal with athletics on a daily basis and that is something that I love," Bennett said. Look for the former Poquoson coach to stay within the Islander family when he hires the new head coach. "We're going to make that decision in October sometime."
