OLNEY, MD - Sophomore running back Stefon Diggs left his mark Thursday evening as Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons football team won a high scoring battle 49-37 against the Gilman Greyhounds improving their season record to 3-0.
Playing at home for the first time this season, Good Counsel entered the game with previous wins this season against Mt. St. Joe's and Valhalla.
Outscoring their opponents 70-16 so far this year, they were about to face a tough Gilman (2-1) team. Gilman's lone loss was from DeMatha September 12th.
It was an impressive game on both sides of the ball. With high Div I prospects all over the field, Good Counsel was able to put points up on the board with big plays and not with many plays from the offensive side of the football.
Stefon Diggs had two impressive back to back 90+ yards kickoff returns for touchdowns in the first half. He scored a third touchdown on a 12 yard run.
Junior quarterback Zach Dancel had an impressive game as well with a 71 yard strike down the left sideline to senior defensive back/wide receiver Louis Young and another 35 yard pass to EJ Scott for a touchdown. Zach added his own rushing touchdown.
Gilman lead the offensive charge with Darius Jennings who highlighted most of Gilman's rushing attack. He attacked with running plays up the middle and quick counters off of fake handoffs to the fullback and tailback. Jennings followed his blockers and had four touchdowns in the game.
Gilman constantly fought back, but could not keep up with the big plays of Good Counsel. The final score was 49-37.
