Defending Bay Rivers Champs Are #18

This Poquoson Islander offense should be very dangerous with the ability to have two different quarterbacks under center taking the snaps. Having 2 different quality quarterbacks on a team, makes it difficult for opponents to get prepared...

Poquoson junior Tee McConnell moves towards the offensive line to run the next play. McConnell is expecting to be the starting quarterback, but look for Coach Duty to use him in as many ways possible to help this Islander team win...

Offense

Quarterbacks - Poquoson is lucky enough to have a pair of great quarterbacks. Which in the 2008 season, coach Elliott Duty went with the guy who had the hot hand at the time. Tee McConnell (5'9", 160lbs), who is going to be a junior, manages the game very well and has tremendous running ability. McConnell's other partner in the offensive attack, also a junior, Luke Hill (5'10" 180lbs) Hill has a great arm and can produce for the Islanders this season. So look for both young men to be on the field at all times either in the quarterback position or back field or even wide out.

Running Backs - Running the wing tee the passed two years gives Poquoson an opportunity to have plenty of running backs. Even though the Islanders have lost 3 backs from graduation, they are back with power and quickness again. The power will come from their two strongest kids; Cody Hutchison (Jr. 5'8" 170lbs) and their fullback Thomas Garris (Jr. 5'9" 165lbs) Also, in the wing tee formation will be the Hill brothers; Luke (Jr.) and younger brother Dylan a rising sophomore (6'0" 175lbs) and also Jay Diggs (Jr. 5'6" 150lbs)

Wide Receivers - Two years ago the Islanders ran the spread and tossed the ball around a lot. Now the wing tee is back and there are only select plays for passing downs. Will Haskins a (6'2" 220lb) wide out will help on those passing downs. To assist Haskins on the opposite side of the field will be either Jay Diggs and or Dylan Hill.

Tight Ends - Having the running game as the Islanders main threat, means the tight end will be a main blocker on the strong side. Junior Evan Lemon will be that block down tight end at (5'10" 180lbs) there will be no problem opening up the strong side.

Offensive/ Defensive Line - Key loss to the offensive line is the 2nd team all-state 6'0" 220lb center Daniel Boyer. Other than that, the Islanders have 3 of the 5 starters on the line returning; Tyler Ward (Sr. 6'0" 215lbs), Dustin Edwards (Sop. 5'10" 210lbs), and Nate Rhea (6'0" 230lbs). Look for William Carstens (5'10" 200lbs) to also contribute as well. On the Defensive line, Will Haskins will line up on one end. Tyler Ward will be the nose guard, Rhea and Edwards will be in the rotation, as will Steven Boyer (Jr. 6'2" 200lbs) who was hurt his freshman year and played JV his sophomore season.

Defense

Linebackers - Running a new defensive scheme 3-5-3 will mean that the Islanders are deep in the linebacker core and they have speed to burn. The bash brothers are back; Dylan Hill the team's leader in tackles last year (100 tlks) and 2nd team all district. Along with brother Luke will make for a very strong middle. The brothers will be accompanied by; Thomas Garris, Russell Thornburg (Jr. 6'0" 170lbs), and Jay Diggs.

Cornerbacks - The universal Tee McConnell will assume his DB position again following his sophomore season where he had 9 interceptions. The Islanders do have a couple questions, has to whom will be the 2nd DB, but they believe Cody Hutchison will step up and play a big role in the secondary.

Safeties - The safety position is a large question mark for Poquoson. If they can find another middle linebacker they will move stud Dylan Hill back.

Special Teams - Lost Justin White to graduation, meaning Michael Lutz (Jr. 5'7" 165lbs) who will be doing the kicking duties. Punter Randy Margot (Sr. 6'0" 180lbs). For both kick and punt return the Islanders will have the same two guys back there as they did the year before, McConnell and D. Hill, and sometimes the elusive Jay Diggs.
