Welch, Thomas Selected To Coach All Stars
Gameday Announced Today that John Thomas of McLean and Chuck Welch of Westfield will be the head coaches for the East and West All Star Teams next week. Both coaches led their teams to district championships and the Northern Region playoffs.

CHANTILLY, VA - Shortly after the VHSL state championships this weekend, the attention will turn to the 1st All Star Weekend being hosted by Gameday and Chantilly High School on the 12th and 13th of June. Monday, Gameday announced that Westfield's Chuck Welch and McLean's John Thomas were unanimously selected to lead the West and East All Star rosters.
Welch, who led Westfield to an impressive undefeated regular season in the Concorde District, and to the Concorde title, will be joined by Stone Bridge head coach Sam Plank, Potomac Falls skipper Joe Terango, and Chantilly head coach Kevin Ford.
Welch was selected by Gameday's All Star committee along with McLean's John Thomas. Thomas was voted as the unanimous choice to lead the East All Stars after guiding McLean to the Liberty District championship this season.
Thomas will be joined by Craig Flesher from Hylton High School, and longtime Herndon coach Alan McCullock in the dugout. The final coaching spot on the East All Star roster will be announced later this week.
All Star Weekend will begin on June 12th, 2009 with a Home Run Derby contest featuring the best home run hitters from the Northern Virginia area. On June 13th, 2009, the All Star Game will be played with first pitch scheduled for 7pm. The game will be a 9 inning contest and over 40 of the best players in the region will compete, with all of them receiving playing time in the game.
All Star Weekend will be hosted at Chantilly High School with proceeds from the event benefiting the Chantilly High School Booster Club. Both events will be televised by Gameday online at GamedayMagazine.com and broadcast live on the Gameday Radio Network.
