Local divers advance to Zone competition
Three local divers--Cory Bowersox, 15, of Burke, Madison Fletcher, 10, of McLean, and Kelly Lloyd, 17, of Vienna--9 will advance to the USA Diving Summer Junior Zone Championships beginning July 9.
The top 12 divers from each event at the USA Diving Summer Region Championships advance to the Zone Championships; the top six in each event at Zones will continue on to the Speedo Junior National Championships, the competition from which the International teams will be selected. Divers who place seventh through twelfth at Zones move on to the USA Diving Age Group National Championships.
At the Regional meet, Cory Bowersox placed sixth in the 16-18 age group Boys 1-meter with a score of 398.60. He finished sixth in the 3-meter event with a 417.75.
Madison Fletcher placed ninth in the 11 and Under Girls 1-meter with a score of 108.60; she finished seventh on 3-meter with a 126.85.
Kelly Lloyd finished tenth in the 16-18 age group Girls 3-meter with a score of 340.25; her eighteenth-place finish on the 1-meter did not qualify her for Zone competition in that event.
