Daeschner, Evans Lead Viking Homerun Derby

MANASSAS, VA - Tonight in a key Cedar Run district match-up, the Loudoun Valley Vikings hit five home runs on their way to beat the Osbourn Eagles 14-0 in five innings. The Vikings have hit eleven homers in their last three games. They hit four against Langley, two against Stonewall Jackson and five in this game.

In the top of the 1st inning, lead-off hitter Iain Mottice would reach on a walk and would swipe 2nd and 3rd base. Osbourn starting pitcher Brandon Coffey would "K" the next two Viking hitters. With two outs, freshman Matt Reed would hit an RBI single to bring home Mottice for a 1-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the onslaught would start. Junior Beattie Southerland hit a deep drive to straight away center for a double. With one out, junior Daniel Fleming got a free pass to 1st base. Junior Peter Evans stepped to the plate and delivered a three run shot to left field, his first of two round trippers on the night for a 4-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Vikes would break the game wide open by hitting three round trippers scoring five runs all with two outs. Junior Andrew Creamer singled to right field. Southerland followed with a two run home run, his fourth of the season. Southerland has now hit a home run in each of the Viking's last three games. Senior TJ Daeschner would follow with a solo shot to left field, his first of the season and first of two home runs on the night. Evans came to the plate and followed with a solo home run, his third of the season and second of the night for a 9-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Vikes continued to build their lead scoring four more runs. Junior Alex Owens singled to start the inning. Reed followed with a double to put runners in scoring position. With the infield in, Creamer hit a grounder past the 2nd baseman to plate both Owens and Reed. With two outs and Creamer on 1st base, Daeschner hit his second home run on the night for a 13-0 lead.

In the top of the 5th inning, Mottice reached on a walk and senior Wes Walker followed with a single to right field. With one out, Reed would hit a single scoring Mottice for the final margin.
