McLean Softball Keeps the Streak Going

FALLS CHURCH, VA - After coming off of 2 big wins against South Lakes, the Lady Highlanders knew they had to be ready for Marshall, who was pumped up after defeating Madison on Wednesday 6-5, giving McLean sole possession of 1st place in the Liberty District.

The game remained scoreless until the 4th inning when McLean had their first 3 batters walked. With bases loaded, freshmen rightfielder Mary Spulak hit a double for a 2 run, 2 RBI. In the bottom of the 4th for Marshall, junior catcher Michelle Tilson singled, junior 1st baseman Lauren Sanata walked, junior pitcher Christine Grilliot singled to score Tilson and the inning would end 2-1 with McLean leading.

In the top of the 7th inning, Spulak would lead off with a single, freshmen DH Allison Wilhelm would sacrifice bunt, sophomore pitcher Jamie Bell singled, junior short stop Lauren McColgan would bunt scoring Spulak on a squeeze play, and junior second baseman Brittany McCray would bunt scoring Bell on a squeeze play. Sutherland singled with one RBI. McLean would score 4 runs.

Jamie Bell pitched for McLean allowing 5 hits and Christine Grilliot pitched for Marshall allowing 7 hits.

McLean improves their record to 11-1 in the district and 18-3 overall. They will face Woodson on Tuesday at home and Langley at Langley on Friday for their last regular season game before district play.
