Larsen Leads Vikings To 6th Win In A Row


The Loudoun Valley Vikings won their 6th game in a row on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Robinson. The Vikings improved to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the Cedar Run District.

FAIRFAX, VA - The Vikings continued their winning ways today, defeating the Robinson Rams 4-1 in a non-district game. This is the Vikings sixth straight win. Junior Carl Larsen pitched a complete game allowing only one run on four hits. Larsen did not allow a hit until the 5th inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, freshman Matt Reed led off with a double. One out later, junior Beattie Southerland singled to score Reed. With two outs, junior Daniel Fleming hit an RBI double to plate Southerland for a 2-0 Valley lead.

The Vikes added a third run in the top of the 3rd inning. Junior Iain Mottice led off with a double to right center. Senior Wes Walker followed with a single. On the ensuing play, Mottice was waved around 3rd base and the relay throw was in time to get Mottice out at the plate. On the play Walker moved to 2nd base. Junior Alex Owens would get plunked and Reed would walk to load the bases. Junior Andrew Creamer hit a deep fly ball to right field for sacrifice fly RBI scoring junior Mac Khosla who pinch ran for Walker. The Vikes added their final run in the top of the 6th inning.

The Rams scored their lone run in the bottom of the 7th inning. After allowing only one hit through six innings, Larsen gave up a double to senior Chris McCloud. With two outs, the Rams hit back to back singles, scoring McCloud. Larsen would get the last Ram hitter to hit a soft grounder to Fleming for the final out.

The Vikings improve to 9-7 and remain 5-5 in the Cedar Run District. The Vikings see action next on Tuesday, May 5 at home against Culpeper. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.

VIKINGS CRUSH OSBOURN, HIT 5 HR's IN THE 14-0 ROMP
MANASSAS, VA - Tonight in a key Cedar Run district match-up, the Loudoun Valley Vikings hit five home runs on their way to beat the Osbourn Eagles 14-0 in five innings. The Vikings have hit eleven homers in their last three games. They hit four against Langley, two against Stonewall Jackson and five in this game.

Senior Kevin Rinek pitched well shutting out the Eagles while allowing only two hits and two walks and striking out two hitters. He kept the Osbourn hitters off balance by hitting his spots with a good fastball and a nasty curveball throughout the entire game.

In the top of the 1st inning, lead-off hitter Iain Mottice would reach on a walk and would swipe 2nd and 3rd base. Osbourn starting pitcher Brandon Coffey would "K" the next two Viking hitters. With two outs, freshman Matt Reed would hit an RBI single to bring home Mottice for a 1-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the onslaught would start. Junior Beattie Southerland hit a deep drive to straight away center for a double. With one out, junior Daniel Fleming got a free pass to 1st base. Junior Peter Evans stepped to the plate and delivered a three run shot to left field, his first of two round trippers on the night for a 4-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Vikes would break the game wide open by hitting three round trippers scoring five runs all with two outs. Junior Andrew Creamer singled to right field. Southerland followed with a two run home run, his fourth of the season. Southerland has now hit a home run in each of the Viking's last three games. Senior TJ Daeschner would follow with a solo shot to left field, his first of the season and first of two home runs on the night. Evans came to the plate and followed with a solo home run, his third of the season and second of the night for a 9-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Vikes continued to build their lead scoring four more runs. Junior Alex Owens singled to start the inning. Reed followed with a double to put runners in scoring position. With the infield in, Creamer hit a grounder past the 2nd baseman to plate both Owens and Reed. With two outs and Creamer on 1st base, Daeschner hit his second home run on the night for a 13-0 lead.

In the top of the 5th inning, Mottice reached on a walk and senior Wes Walker followed with a single to right field. With one out, Reed would hit a single scoring Mottice for the final margin.

The Vikings have now won five straight to improve to 8-7 and 5-5 in the Cedar Run district. Osbourn falls to 11-6 and 7-4 in the Cedar Run district. The Vikings travel to Robinson High School on Saturday, May 2 for a non-district contest. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.

REED PITCHES VIKINGS TO VICTORY WITH COMPLETE GAME PERFORMANCE:
MANASSAS, VA- Loudoun Valley senior Adam Reed threw a complete game shutout to lead the Vikings over the Stonewall Jackson Raiders 9-0. Reed scattered five hits and struck out nine Raider hitters. The Vikings, now riding on a four game winning streak after losing three straight, improve to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the Cedar Run District. The Raiders fall to 5-9 and 3-5 in the Cedar Run District.

The Vikings didn't waste anytime and jumped out to an early lead. After hitting four home runs in their win over Langley the other night, Loudoun Valley used the long ball again. In the top of the 1st inning, lead off hitter Iain Mottice was plunked by Raider starting pitcher Alex Martinez. Senior catcher Wes Walker followed with a double to the left field fence. With runners on 2nd and 3rd base, junior 3rd baseman Alex Owens hit an opposite field home run for a 3-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, junior 1st baseman Beattie Southerland continued to stay hot by hitting a solo homerun over the left field fence, his third homer of the season. He hit two solo shots the other night against Langley.

In the top of the 5th inning, Walker and Owens drew back to back walks and advanced into scoring position after a wild pitch. Freshman Matt Reed hit a sacrifice fly scoring freshman JJ Sarty who pinch ran for Walker.

In the top of the 6th inning, Mottice drew a walk and Walker hit a double to the gap in right center field scoring Mottice all the way from 1st base.

The Vikings added three more runs in the top of the 7th inning. Senior TJ Daeschner reached on an infield single and advanced to 2nd base on a throwing error by the shortstop. Southerland followed with a single plating Daeschner and advanced to 2nd base on the throw to the plate. Junior Daniel Fleming hit an RBI single scoring Southerland. With two outs, Mottice followed with yet another single scoring Fleming for the final margin.

LOUDOUN VALLY DOWNS LIBERTY 4-1 AT FIREMAN'S FIELD:
PURCELLVILLE, VA - Tonight the Loudoun Valley Vikings baseball team beat the Liberty Eagles 4-1 at Fireman's Field to snap a three game slide. Senior Kevin Rinek started on the hill for the Vikes throwing six complete innings. Rinek allowed only one run on four hits. Senior Daniel Burke pitched the final inning to preserve the win.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, senior Iain Mottice led off with a single. Senior Wes Walker followed with a walk. One out later, freshman Matt Reed hit an RBI single to plate Mottice for a 1-0 Viking lead. Eagle pitcher Cody Donelan would get Andrew Creamer to line out into a double play to end the frame.

The Eagles would tie it in the top of the 2nd inning. Cody Donelan led off the inning for the Eagles with a single. Jeb Early would reach on a 6-4 fielder's choice. Josh Hemperly drew a walk. With runners on 1st and 2nd base, catcher Bryant Hines laced a double to left field scoring Early. As Hemperly was waved around 3rd base, left fielder Matt Reed threw to shortstop Daniel Fleming. Fleming's relay throw to catcher Wes Walker was in time to get Hemperly out at the plate. Viking pitcher Kevin Rinek would get the next Eagle hitter to fly out to the 1st baseman for the final out of the inning.

Senior Beattie Southerland led off the bottom of the 2nd inning with a double to the gap in left centerfield. Donelan would get the next Viking hitter to fly out. Senior Trey Clark would reach on a walk putting runners at 1st and 2nd base. Junior Mac Khosla stepped to the plate and during his at bat, Donelan would throw a wild pitch advancing the runners in scoring position. Khosla would ground out to 2nd base scoring Southerland. With two outs, Iain Mottice hit a deep drive to centerfield to leg out a triple scoring Clark from 3rd base for a 3-1 Viking lead. The Vikes would add another run in the bottom of the 6th inning for their final run.

The Vikings improve to 4-7 overall and are 3-5 in the Cedar Run District. The Eagles fall to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in the Cedar Run District. The Vikings play again on Saturday, April 25 in a non-district contest against Wakefield at Fireman's Field. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
