ASHBURN, VA - Senior Nick Fialdini pitched a three hit shutout and Stone Bridge scored 8 runs in the third on their way to a 6 inning 10-0 drubbing of Madison. The win gave Stone Bridge 2nd place in the Liberty District and a guaranteed slot in the Northern Regionals.
Stone Bridge jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Spenser Rositano led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore J.J. White.
Stone Bridge blew it open in the third, scoring eight to take a 9-0 lead. Senior Pat Piccolo led off with a walk, senior Brad Koch sacrificed him to second on a beautiful bunt that the pitcher threw into right field. After Rositano walked to load the bases, senior Michael Prince hit into a fielders choice scoring Piccolo. J.J. White walked to reload the bases and Madison switched pitchers.
Junior Taylor Lambke greeted senior Gavin Hilburn with a base hit scoring sophomore Sid Harvey who was running for Koch. Junior Michael Mattingly walked to score Prince and then senior Patrick Thompson hit into a fielders choice scoring sophomore Ty Lighton who was pinch running for White. Senior Bryce Williams singled to reload the bases and then Piccolo and Koch both got hit by pitches scoring Mattingly and Thompson. Rositano completed the scoring with a 2-run single scoring Williams and Piccolo.
Fialdini put the side down in order in the fourth and fifth throwing only eight pitches in each inning and with guys on second and third and two outs in the sixth got a fly ball to end the inning.
Stone Bridge came to bat in the bottom of the sixth and put the game away. Michael Prince led off with a bunt single, went to second when junior Dillon Berger got hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Michael Mattingly.
Stone Bridge ended the regular season 16-4 overall and 11-3 in the Liberty District.
