Vikings Topple Saxons in Offensive Battle 12-7

McLEAN, VA - Last night, the Loudoun Valley Vikings traveled to Langley High School for a non-district contest. The balls were flying out of the park as if both teams were playing at the new Yankee Stadium. The Vikings and Saxons combined for six home runs, twenty-two hits, and nineteen runs with the Vikes coming out on top 12-7.

Senior TJ Daeschner took the hill for the Vikings to get the win. Daeschner scattered eight hits allowing six runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings and striking out seven Saxon hitters. Senior Daniel Burke pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to preserve the win.

With one out in the top of the 2nd inning, junior Beattie Southerland hit a shot to left center field for his first of two solo home runs of the evening. Daeschner followed with a single. Junior Daniel Fleming delivered a two run homer over the left field wall, his second of the season. The inning continued with junior Peter Evans and senior Wes Walker hitting singles. Junior Alex Owens would deliver an RBI single plating Evans for a 4-0 Valley lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Vikes added to their lead. Again with one out, Southerland would hit is second solo homer of the game. Daeschner and Evans would reach on walks. With runners on 1st and 2nd base, senior Iain Mottice hit a double scoring both runs for a 7-0 lead before the Saxons could end the inning.

In the top of the 4th inning, Daeschner, and Fleming would hit back to back singles and Evans would reach on a walk to load the bases. Mottice delivered again with a bases clearing double. Walker followed with an RBI single scoring Mottice. Freshman Matt Reed led off the 5th inning with a solo shot to left field, his first round tripper of the season for the final Viking run.

Langley scored three runs in the 3rd inning and 6th innings with the help of solo homeruns from right fielder Barrett Hunter and another Saxon hitter. The Saxons added another run in the 7th inning for the final margin. The Vikings improve to 6-7 overall and remain 3-5 in the Cedar Run district. The Vikings travel to Stonewall Jackson on Tuesday, April 28. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
