Spartans' Hathaway Is The Difference In 7-6 Win
ASHBURN, VA - Broad Run defeated Freedom 7-6 in a back and forth game in Ashburn on Friday night.
The game was tied 1-1 going into the 6th inning when the Eagles scored 3 runs to get Spartan starter Chase Warren out of the game. Broad Run got a two-run, two-out single from Patrick Murphy to cap off their own 5 run 6th inning to take a 6-4 lead into the 7th.
The Eagle's Anthony Perez hit his own two-run, two-out single off reliever Taylor Clarke to tie the score. The Spartan's won it with two outs in the bottom of the 7th on an unearned run after a walk and a stolen base. Spartan pinch hitter Andrew Hathaway was jammed and hit a slow roller between the mound and first base. The first baseman's toss to the pitcher covering was wide and the runner scored from 2nd on the play.
Eagle's sophomore, Brad Baker, had his second strong outing pitching 5+ innings and leaving the game with a 4-1 lead. Baker scattered 5 hits and 2 walks. Anthony Perez led the Eagles offense going 2-3 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Freshmen Matt Malacane also added 2 hits, including a double, and 2 runs scored for the Eagles.

The Freedom Eagles JV baseball team won two games in a 24 hour period, beating Broad Run 4-3 in South Riding on Friday night and Loudoun County in Leesburg, 10-6, on Saturday morning. In the Broad Run game, Andre Lamont allowed 3 runs in the top of the first inning, but shut the Spartans down the rest of the way for the complete game win. On Saturday, the Eagles jumped out to a 8-0 first inning lead and held on using four pitchers to earn their 3rd win of the year over the Raiders.
