CHANTILLY, VA - TCC Sports, LLC, the parent company of Gameday's family of products, is excited to announce the 1st All-Star Weekend for baseball and softball in Northern Virginia. Gameday's All-Star Weekend will be held on June 12th & June 13th at Chantilly High School, and the event will feature the best seniors on the diamond this spring in both sports.
In conjunction with the Chantilly High School Booster Club, Gameday will hold a Home Run Derby on June 12th for both baseball and softball. The top home run hitters from the Northern Virginia area will be invited to participate in the event, which should be very exciting for the fans in attendance.
Gameday's Home Run Derby contest will be similar to that seen on ESPN for the major leagues, and will feature several rounds. The Home Run Derby will be televised by Gameday for re-broadcast online at GamedayMagazine.com. Each participant will have the option to bring their own batting practice pitcher with them to the event, just like they do at the professional level.
On Saturday June 13th, the top softball and baseball players in the region will compete in the All-Star Games. Both games will be 9 innings long and every player on each roster will receive playing time.
"All-Star Weekend will be a great event to showcase the outstanding baseball and softball talent that our area has to offer," said Gameday owner Andy Hayes. "Our teams win state championships on the diamond just about every year, and now we can all come out and watch the area's finest play together, which should be a ton of fun."
All-Star Weekend will be open to the public to attend with a paid admission to the two day event. Tickets will be sold at Chantilly High School on Friday and Saturday, and proceeds will benefit the Chantilly High School Booster Club.
"The folks at Chantilly are a first class group, and we are excited about bringing the first All-Star Weekend to their campus," Hayes said. "We've enjoyed a great relationship with Terry Brown and his staff for years, and we are both glad they could be the first to host this event."
All-Star Weekend will be televised by Gameday and all events will be broadcast live on the Gameday Radio Network. Gameday is currently in talks with several local media outlets to carry the Home Run Derby and All-Star games both live and on-demand.
"We broadcast over 65 athletic events in the spring, and most of them are baseball and softball games," Hayes said. "We get to know these teams and players on the air, and it will be great to give the area's best a chance to play together on our network in this type of event."
The two teams for both baseball and softball will include 20 players per roster from all levels in the high school ranks. The players will be selected based on their outstanding play this spring on the diamond. Gameday will work with the local head coaches to select the teams and fill the rosters.
"We will reach out and provide every head coach in the area with a chance to nominate the best players they have seen this spring," Hayes said. "After we get their nominations, we will have a committee comprised of Gameday broadcasters, and other selected media, make the final decisions on who will be invited to the 1st All-Star Weekend. I am more than confident that we will find the best seniors in the area for both baseball and softball"
The same committee responsible for selecting the All-Star teams will also select the coaching staffs for each game.
"We want to reward the coaches who did an outstanding job with their teams this spring, and make it a big deal to be named the managers for the All-Star Game," Hayes said. "Every coach we have talked to this spring about All-Star Weekend has been excited that an event like this is going to happen, and they want to be a part of it."
In addition, those selected to each All-Star roster will be featured in the July edition of Gameday Magazine.
"Much like we do with football and the All Gameday Team, we will feature the All-Stars from this event in our publication with bio's and photos from the game," Hayes said. "It will give each player something special to remember All-Star Weekend, and their senior season."
